The so-called "Fairy Magnolia's" that have started to appear in garden centres are quite small though I will hold out advocating them until their hardiness is more proven.
They look superficially like a Camellia too on first appearance including being evergreen. Ours retail at a wopping £30 for a three foot, albeit well branched plant full of opening blush pink flower buds.
Attractive yes, but as I say it they look superficially Camellia-like so may not be (including unknown hardiness) quite what you are looking for.

All three are absolutely gorgeous, I'd like them all. I agree about their dubious hardiness though.
