Some suggestions please ;D. I like magnolia liliiflora but may be alittle big do you think??? . Ive seen a standard from T&M but what others would be ok in a small(ish) garden???

I've got M soulangeana and althought Magnolias are not supposed to like being clipped ....where this one is at the side of a path and near next doors boundary.... I do clip it both sides so it is eventually getting fan shaped...appears to be loving it going by the flowers ;D

Pen bought me a Cornus Contraversa Varigata for my 65th birthday, the idea was that I could sit beneath it on a hot day, that was 5yrs ago and it's only 2' tall now!!

So at 2ft a year growth it would make 10ft by the time I'm 50 (chop chop ). The main reason why i want something smaller is i would have to plant it in towards the middle if the garden (somewere). The top of the garden is not that stable and the wall looks set to collapse with too much pressure . Id also possibly like something in the front (once we have lifted the paver's) but again will need something small .

Just so happens I have got to p55 of May GA and there is a page on this very subject M stellata only grows to 6' maximum even after 20 years but is bushy
