I found a spot and planted my rose in the garden, I know my track record with pots so I thought this was the safest option. If roses cost that much then I need to have somewhere to plant one rather than just want one. I have too much proper building work that needs to be done before I can think of new raised beds

Merlin, it is one I dug out of the garden, I have no idea what it is, it has been in the pot for six months or so. We went sniffing roses again today and both liked the smell and colour of Golden Bouquet www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.36283.0It was £20 is this the sort of money roses are? Cockers aren't that expensive and are good roses. they tend to be cheaper if you buy them bare root and dormant. I have Nostalgia too, the scent is just lovely

You can't go wrong with that rose Grindle. I know it quite well.
Austin and Classic roses are not just grown in their own fields, although Classic owns a lot of land. A lot are grown in Norfolk and find their way to our local garden centres or the auction at Wisbech.

First the good news - my rose 'Alibaba' arrived this morning! ;D ;D Then the bad news - the flowers are in tight bud, so I can't choose a clematis to plant with it. I'll have to be patient. Merlin, I do like your rose.

Thank you, it looks even nicer later as it has a loose habit. What about Niome or 'fond memories'

glad your rose arrived G, better that it was in tight bud or the flowers could have been damaged

I've just opened my David Austin brochure and am salivating already. It's full of the most wonderful pictures with plenty of info. I strongly recommend ordering a copy.
