I see about the plot and the need for a windbreak, on the bright side, it is one lot of work and one lot of expense and then it is done for good. Good luck with the interview on Thursday

hi WF, well where my plot is situated is at the end of a row of three, two of them being derelict, and then the plots move back into the larger longer plots of the others, which are all established of many years and a couple of derelicts now being started. they have the luxury of a shelter of big houses and large trees and hedging, so yes, unfortunately for me now i will have to put in the windbreaks to make the plot workable. am starting to realise thats why the other two along side me have been abandoned some time! in better news though, i have got an interview at the royal botanic gardens in edinburgh on thursday to start a degree in horticulture with plantsmanship ;D have wanted to do it for years, but circumstances now dictate it is possible Well done you They have a very good fern collection there which is linked to the BPS

well me and hub finished off the windbreak around the plot today ;D the difference was almost instantaneous, and the temp elevated by at least 3 degrees inside the plot once we had got it fixed all the way round. unbelievable! so tomorrow im at edinburgh, then friday will be full speed ahead putting up more wigwams as i have OODLES of runner bean plants to put out, and to plant out spring onions and more cabbages and sprouts. so happy its done and really sturdy. it was still quite windy while we were doing it, but wow once inside it, the difference was huge. ;D ;D pics to follow at weekend

It sounds ideal and well worth the work and expense. You'll walk it tomorrow

thanks for all your wishes - it was a very positive interview ;D i was interviewed by the admissions officer for the college im hoping to go to, and the head horticulture guy from the botanics, and he was very impressed with everything i was saying, and the admissions officer was also very nice and they said i have the qualities they are looking for, and they will get in touch within a fortnight ;D ;D ;D then i went off to ikea for lunch and bought a humungous bundle of 7ft willow sticks for £6, so am a happy bunny all round

That sounds really positive - shame you have to wait to hear, though.

planted out a load of spring onions red florence, made netted beds for the courgettes with stakes instead of the willow hoops as they are growing well now, planted out the pumpkins, planted 3 large redcurrants, a thornless blackberry, 2 large raspberries, and big pot of chives
went to GC and bought some vermiculite
