hello peeps, just another wee update well, the guy at the council has said that due to being 'short of staff and snowed under with work' he has no idea when he is gonna get to rotavating my new plot, as he is aware another two of us on that site need it doing [and i know the other twos' plots are twice the size of mine and alot worse!] but 'he will get to it, when he gets to it', so you see, to me and my impatient soul, this is not a good state of affairs, considering i have bags of seed potatoes and jerusalem artichokes choking up my kitchen table waiting to go in! anyway, hubby has said we will go over tomorrow and take forks, spade, rakes etc, assess what we can get dug over [well me, as his back is done] and try and cultivate a good section so at least i can get some nutrient in and then sow spuds and chokes by sunday hopefully other than that, i will be constructing a few bean wigwams around the perimeter of the plot, as it is in an open site and i noticed last night its quite windy; with blackcurrant bushes going along another side as they are about 4ft high and mature [and i know this sounds kinda too high for a blackcurrant 'bush', but they are the most heavy cropping blackcurrants ive ever known so im not fiddling with them this year ooh and ive sourced some free pallets to make a lovely compost bin..... ta ta for now chaps

haha! yeah, had been searching for some as i had been 'digging' around the web for links and threads to free ones for this reason i put an ad on my local freeshare wanting some, and got msgs back from peeps telling me where to get them for free in my town at the local industrial estate so now at least my plot will look respectable in its infancy )))))

There is usually plenty free on Industrial estates, we get people fetching them for wood burning stoves!

There has been some pallets left at community garden so I will mention making use for a compost bin as this would help us greatly.

Excellent news Bluebell, just in time for the growing season. You definitely have a good council.

no i didnt threaten them, but i must have pulled on that mans' heartstrings telling him i needed to get my potatoes and j/chokes in pretty smart! haha! anyhow ive just got back and have taken some pictures, but unfortunately my happiness about getting the plot was slightly tainted by a load of neds breaking down a wire fence at the back of mine, to run amok through the allotment site. it is completely fenced round by stock fencing, with a heavy 5-bar gate at the end where cars and heavy vehicles have access to get into your plot, say with the rotavator man, the council grass-cutting team, and yourselves if you are transporting bags of compost etc, but its not in a spot where cars can just come in as they are passing, if you know what i mean. anyway, i will hope my plot doesnt now get targetted. fortunately the only valuable thing on it at the mo is the compost bin ive just made - and that is because its now immense sentimental value! - so i will see how the season goes..... pics to follow
