We went to the GS at Trago today, they have a number of show gardens, one is a Japanese garden full of Acers. Many of them have produced seeds which look stunning. I noticed one of mine has produced seeds, I wonder if it is the result of the cold winter. Has anyone got seeds on their Acers? I've never known them to produce seeds before.

I've never seen their seed, they do remind us of their origins.

I've got seeds on my acer too, its had a few in previous years but this year it is covered. Mine was outside all winter so I think you are right and its the result of the cold temperatures.

When the seeds were ripe there were few left, I did pick a few and sowed them. I noticed today that two have germinated.

I can see someone selling Acers in a few years time to help with the gardening funds. ;D

I would have expected Acer seedlings to look more like sycamore with baby leaves.

I thought they looked a bit conifer-ish, very similar to my Christmas tree seedlings?

Do they Steve They were in the conservatory where I was drying out some fir cones. I liked the idea of growing Acers, I'm not so keen of a fir tree. Time will tell
