I have just seen a great spotted woodpecker ;D ;D This is a first here ! It was in one of the large conifers way behind the rowan and the old cherry tree opposite the front of my house. It was on the topmost branch of the conifer just looking around for a minute or two before flying over the top of my house ..... i am chuffed to bits to have seen it

They love fat balls, you may be able to tempt it in. They are very shy birds, it took years before ours didn't fly off at the slightest movement.

Here are a couple of photos for you Louise. The fledgling (red cap) being fed by dad. It is sweet that it sits down to feed. In between being fed the fledgling quite happily feeds it self

I think the one i saw yesterday was a female, i'm looking out for her this morning but nothing as yet .....
