I agree with DC. I've had some not even flowered at all this year Les Thank you both, I'm still trying to findout what it's called so I can label them all.

Agreed, I'd say it was the very cool nights through the first 1/2 2/3 of July.

very odd, all of mine flowered as expected for mid august, and most would have flowered earlier than that if i'd let them. Maybe it's a combination of the weather and variety?

Hi Scrumpy, all of the 1,300 or so that I have were around 2-3 weeks later flowering than I would have expected. As it happens this was good for me as I did not get the arrangement with my wholesaler in New Covent Garden Flower Market until mid-August so was able to begin cutting in bulk then; ordinarily I would have been cutting from last week in July here in West Sussex. I began planting out on May 20th.

Here in the north east most people I know have all flowered later this year.It poses a problem for next year, did I time the majority off my dahlias correctly or was it the weather.Dikara superb, leopold chloe and kiwi gloria all flowered 2 weeks later than the rest (my fault for doing my second stop on chloe and superb to late and stopping kiwi 10 days later than I normally would) but other than them I managed to get a good cut off all the rest in a 2 week time span september 3rd /17th which was what I was after.

Made a start on cutting the dahlias back today as they have been battered by the recent odd weather. Managed to get one row done before the rain started

Have any of you got a spare tuber of a good exhibition variety of a Giant cactus/semi cactus that you could let me have please,or a few cuttings next year.?I will pay postage.I grew Janal Amy last year but I must have got the labels mixed up because all the plants that were supposed to be this variety turned out to be Elma E. so I have lost it.Also the person who gave me this variety a few years ago has lost it too. Some shows that I go to ask for "giant or large" in which case I can show "Kenora Challenger" but other shows, particularly my own local show ask for them seperately and in most years there are no entries in the giants. If any of you can help me I will give you my address/

Fortunately I have lifted all mne.....the rain started this afternoon...phew Weather down here has been kinder, still cutting for NCGFM - I'll do another 350 - 400 this afternoon. Colour remains good, stems still, for the most part, strong. Hope to go on this week and next and then lift last week of the month. A frost then would be a perfect blessing!
