Don't pot it up Merlin and don't cut it down. It needs some leaves to thrive. Just cut out the duff ones, give it a feed and see what happens. A liquid feed would be good.

It's a dilemma, I've already fed it with 'Toprose' when I fed the rose behind it. The poor thing has been moved twice now as it had problems before. I think it was SteveN who suggested moving it away from a sunny spot to prevent scorching. It must be fed up of being moved but it looks a mess now. If I cut out the bad bits there wont be much left.

This is probably the problem....I'd leave well alone...talk to it nicely and see if it recovers

You've got a point Lou but I've cut out all that won't grow again and it looks better, only half it's size now.

Leave it now, and keep your eye on it, then. Let's hope it recovers from whatever is wrong.

I think I'm going to have to dig it up after all , it's still looking poorly I've been thinking, after I removed the hydrangea to plant the rose and Mock Orange, I dug deep into the clay and filled with soil. This maybe is acting like a clay-lined pond. I have another Mock-Orange in a VERY dry place and it's thriving.

There seems to be nil new growth Merlin. It could be in a sump, but it has been very dry.
