My Philadelphus is fine - but one of the Acers has what must be wind scorch on some leaves. Could that be the problem, do you think?

Floydie, I think you are probably right and its because of the dry weather. I have a Berberis darwnii, normally tough as old boots, and I noticed today that one complete branch has turned brown and the leaves are falling and I think this is because it is in a very dry position under some large ash trees.

I water most days too (If i miss i water first thing the next morning). Its very open here the dryness and wind come hand in hand when it does rain under the trees remains dry (This is were i have plants that too have dry stems/leaves). My Mock orange is only young still in a pot and is closer to the house so is more sheltered so maybe as above its down to the area in the garden coupled with the current dry weather?

After reading your comments I feel happier now and will assume it's the weather. I have another tucked away in a dry but sheltered corner that's doing well so maybe it's the cold winds we've been having. I'll snip out the dead/dying bits and hope it recovers.

Is it near an oil tank which could be leaking? I ask this because it happened to me at my last place and it was the same plant - Philadelphus coronarius aureus. It would certainly be a co-incidence.
