We have a dilemma, a good crop of Blackcurrants but we don't eat pies. Perhaps a tart or two but we like to watch out diets. Is there anything we could do with them without including fattening pastry?

Is there anything we could do with them without including fattening pastry? Wine? ;D Or use as a topping on your morning cereal, or blackcurrant jelly, or liquidise into a breakfast drink. My Mum used to bottle them and then in winter she would simmer them with a little water, push them through a sieve and give us the juice to drink to keep us healthy (full of vitamin C). You could liquidise and freeze and then have drinks in winter, bet you wouldn't get any colds ;D

How about Blackcurrent jam I thought of that, but it has fattening sugar in it doesn't it Lesley? ;D More than likely depends how much you spread on your bread ;D i got put off blackcurrants as a child my parents had a 4 1/2 acre field which was put down to B/C they were up at the crake of sparrow getting them picked then into town to be sold, also gooseberries. Every weekend I remember my mother making pie's for sunday pud.

This is getting interesting. What do you eat Merlin? Actually, you had better not tell me. I will get jealous because I am fat and enjoy my food.

Well, We try not to eat 'man made' food and bread is one which is fattening as you tend to spread fattening stuff on it! I miss the honey though Sometimes OH buys a fresh cob and we have Somerset Brie with it, but not often.

Ours go in the rum pot or on top of cheesecake, blackcurrant daiquiri is rather good too.
