Sorry folks I have only just seen your lovely birthday greetings and thank you for remembering me. Didn't get chance to celebrate the day this year as my daughter has been in hospital since I returned from holiday on 15/9 so the daily trips to hospital are ongoing. Very tiring.

I am off to the garden centre looking for as many pink bulbs as I can find which I am planting for my expected new little grandaughter, Amberley Mathilda, whose birth is expected in the next week or two at 34 weeks. We have waited 20 years for this miracle baby and what nicer way to welcome her than a wonderful display of spring flowers.

Hi SueA. My Wisteria has now lost all its leaves. I am giving it some tlc in the form of bone meal and new soil/compost and really hoping for the best. I was hoping to start training it along a fence this year. It's a wait and see game.

Hello Tel and daitheplant. I will see what I can do re posting a pic. Not looked into that yet. All my hopes for my garden this year have faded as, through lack of time, I've not been able to get in to do much work (due to unforeseen circumstances which are leading to happy times ahead) and even had to cancel my Macmillan fundraiser day due to this as I've been running around to hospitals with my daughter for the last 2 months.
Tel, I don't think it is lack of water but it could be wind which we've had quite a lot of this year if you will pardon the expression.
I am going to try adding new compost and Bone Meal where the Wisteria is planted to see if it perks up. I hope it does the trick.

My latest purchases were from a Downs Syndrome Centre in Durham. I like to go in to buy something when I visit a friend in Durham. It is a well used, purpose built centre built from money they raised themselves. I bought 3 oriental poppies, two Geums and a Malva and I am really looking forward to seeing what colours they will be,
I have also bought for a wedding present an Annabelle Hydrangea and some more of the lavenders I bought earlier in the year which have all now flowered in pastel and deeper hues. Two of the lavenders are called Miss Katherine and the bride to be is called Kathryn so thought that was very appropriate gift.

Advice needed please. I wish to lay a rustic brick edging around my lawn so that I can run the mower over it to keep the edges tidy. What is the best way of doing this ?
1. Do I put a sand and cement mix on the levelled soil, putting it on dry and hoping that any dampness in the soil will set it ?
2. Once the bricks are levelled and in place, will I need to put some dry sand and cement mix brushed in between the joints to secure them.
Everything I do in the garden is trial and error and I've not done anything like this before but will give it a go.
Hope someone 'in the know' can show me the way.

My Wisteria is looking a bit poorly. The leaves are curling inwards. Does anybody know the cause please ?

I took the same approach with cuttings of pinks last year as I did with my blue lace cap hydrangea. Just snipped pieces off and stuck them in pots around the garden and both lots of cuttings worked. Beginner's luck ......

Laughing at you all for bringing memories back from my childhood. I took a posy of garden flowers to one of my teachers at Junior School, I must have been about 7 or 8 at the time, and said "you will like these Miss coz they stink lovely." Wish I hadn't bothered. She gave me 100 lines: Gas stinks, flowers smell lovely." Never forgotten it lol.
