It was cold & wet again this morning here as well! As the rain stopped quite early I was able to go out onto the balcony - for all of 15 mins! I only had time to pot up the 5 Begonia tubers that I didn't get time to do at the beginning of the week. The wind was getting stronger & therefore it also felt colder & I beat a hasty retreat back inside!

Planted some things up the top where the Oak was. Who else needs a Jack hammer, a huge crowbar, etc. to plant things?

That's a shame grindle
I've been cutting away some whispy branches at the back of a Holly shrub, and I planted my new Mahonia 'Sweet Winter'. I gave a Viburnum tinus a haircut, and now it looks like one of those modern men with a shaved head
Garden helping lady came yesterday and moved some things for me, that would be in the way when I get some decking laid down in the spring - Weigela, Fuchsia, hardy Geranium etc. and a clump of Rheubob (I can't spell that !)

You have been busy, Eli! Your clump of rhubarb will probably grow even stronger next year! But best not to pick any stalks this year to give it time to settle in & grown new roots.

Before our weekend visitors arrived I managed to make a start at removing the faded blooms on the Hellebores before their seed pods disperse their seeds. They self seed everywhere!! Still have a few more to do next week.

more weeding, planted out some primulas that I grew from seed last year, removed a lot of ajuga from the small bed under the acer it obviously liked the wet weather and had crept everywhere took out the rest of the pond netting and uncovered my tree fern lots of new fronds appearing. Took duckweed out of the pond, I'm trying to keep it under control this year and removing it as it arrives. Potted up the antirrhinum plugs that arrived. made a start at the back of the pond which I will finish today, I've got so much celandine in there this year

more weeding, trying to get out creeping sow-thistle runners. Also removing lots of self sown Hesperis. Have planted a few bits and bobs out and repotting echinacea plants that I grew from seed last year. They will be big enough to sell this year . Yippee as I have over 30 of them.

Potted up 24 little red pelargonium plants which came yesterday into cell trays & pots in the greenhouse & did a bit of dead heading & weeding. Had to water the basket plants as it hasn't actually rained for 2 days! 😁

potted up the 72 plugs that had arrived, then went back to fighting the celandine, I think I'm losing the battle as it's quite a damp area in the winter I've lost all the Heucherellas that were there but have found some roots that just might survive so I've potted them up and put them in the greenhouse to see if they amount to anything. The Saxifraga stolonifera will need culling in that area too, I love the spring flowers but it can be a thug

I watered some of my cacti, they haven't had a drop since October. I did about half of them and I'll do the rest tomorrow (painful knees back and shoulders stopped me doing them all today)
I also took some trays of succulents to a cold frame and I'll take the rest tomorrow for the same reason.
I managed to prune some potted Fuchsias, and I brought my Solya and Plumbagos outside and watered them.

Pricked out & potted up 3 different varieties of tomatoes in the greenhouse & put 3 mini cucumber plants in there with them, too wet to do anything in the garden.

ooh I wonder if my plug plants arrive this week too. Were they of good quality Grindle? most of them were good little plants, just the odd casualty which I expected and good root system so fingers crossed Finished taking out the celandine, no doubt it will be back next year cleared the saxifrage from around a shrub and dotted some in hard to grow places, cut the grass and reseeded the worst of the bare patches
