I grow a selection of different tomatoes lesley, just one or two of each to get a variety of colours, some of them from little baby plants from the farm shop. I can't remember all the ones I've got at the moment but I know there's Tigerella, Moneymaker, Sungold, a yellow plum shaped one & a little 'black cherry' type one. I grew a few Moneymaker & Red Cherry from seed but must have got the labels mixed up because the Red Cherry I planted in the grow bag has whopping big toms. on it! The cucumbers are a couple of the 'mini' variety in large pots but sometimes I miss one & it gets 'maxi' before we eat it, we had one the other week which was nearly the size of a marrow, it had been hiding, it tasted lovely though.

I have a tomato which I think will be a black one (I also got my labels mixed up!) and the big ugly fruits are so large they keep breaking the stems - and they're not the slightest bit red/black yet. My Mum made me grow it as she says the tomatoes look horrible but taste delicious!
I haven't done a lot in the garden recently, too wet, just planted out some perennials I'd bought - found a frog living in one tray of mixed plants by the greenhouse. Gave me a right turn bouncing out, as the last beastie I'd seen in that tray was a big spider - thought it'd turned into a ginormous bouncing tarantula over the past day or two! I expect Frog probably had Spid for a snack.

I bet your tomato will be 'Black Russian' Bess , I've never grown it but I've heard lots of people say it tastes great, might try that next year. The yellow one I've grown but couldn't remember is 'Sun Belle', quite good flavour but hard to tell when they're ripe as they stay quite firm. Didn't do any gardening yesterday other than watering in the greenhouse as I was laying carpet in the bathroom!

Spent most of the day picking the not yet ripe, but purple, damsons from the half of the tree which collapsed under the weight of the fruit. Hopefully they will ripen up in store. Must be nearly 100 pounds of them.

Nothing. It is too cold and wet to do anything.

I'll need to clear a path through all my pots on the top terrace, the P6 goes in for repair on Saturday and it can't get past at the moment

Planted the new things in the front garden, need to put new bulbs in now. Started on the back garden, deadheading and culling some shrubs

I planted out a few assorted little plants I sent for from Secret Gardening last week, ordered a few more yesterday, I don't feel so bad if the slugs & snails get them if they only cost £1.99 each!

I began clearing the path for the car, took my Belinda Petunia's out of their pots, they are struggling this year, I've repotted them to see if they grow and better. I'll be taking Pelargonium cuttings today off 2 plants I bought reduced, they were down from £4.99 to £1. And they are in great conditon

cleared away a load of rubbish in the side garden, cut all the shoots off the contorted Corylus that had reverted and drastically pruned a winter honeysuckle
