I just braved 13c icy wind for a few minutes and counted in a small are 6 out of 10 tall Irises and budding up very well only 1 is starting to show colour. We call these "Sunsets" all of these are now planted in a different area. (not the new ones budding up) Keith

did a tiny bit of clearing but the ground was too wet, ended up chopping a shrub right down to 3ft, not sure if it will survive, but if not it will be replaced next year

Sometimes I give a shrub a good pruning grindle and it seems to do them good. They always grow back bushier.
I put my Fuchsias outside to get the rain, and they are having plenty tonight !

managed to tidy all the pots near the house, one basket was full of vine weevil larvae, it's now on the garden for the birds, needless to say the begonia was chucked

clearing the greenhouse gradually of all the dead flowers and tomato plants . Putting the compost to bed for the winter. potted up some geraniums and a pepper that seem to have survived the neglect. I printed my decorative new file pages for 2020 seed sowing, something I usually do after Christmas but I needed a "fix" today. I put loads of old opened packets of seeds in the bin today , 2014, 15, and 16 . I wasted too much time this year of them will little or no result. I packed a lot of unopened packets (2017) for the thrift shop, just hadn't the heart to bin them. I still have a Tesco bag full of new seeds from T&M and Fr.F seed sales to sort out along with the freebies from magazines. I`m going to be ruthless ! honestly

I also have lots of old seed packets like ladybird. I must get rid of them but I am a hoarder and keep thinking I may sow them to see what comes up. I never get around to it though !
I hope we have some dry weather today so that I can put my Fuchsias back into the polytunnel. They've had enough water now and I want them to start going into hibernation.

Planted tulips and cyclamen. Put the last of the pots in the greenhouse...apart from one dahlia that's still going strong. Hope to get some weeding done today, while the weather is stable. A large fuschia is also in need of chopping back, its about 10 ft tall now (Lady Gray).

Today's top temp expected 20c. This morning over cast and about 15c. That meant two tracksuits as I can not get the leg cold.
I planted 4 Dianthus, 3 Chinese Ground Orchids, 4 Sweet William and 1 Calla Lilies. Then pulled out 2 buckets of weeds. LUNCH. Watered and fert all the new plants all this took about two hrs it does not sound very much but for my leg it was about the limit.
Next step a Strong Cup of Coffee.
All next week rain great for the garden, that means a few days of Ferts and more weeding as soon as it all clears up.

That sounds quite a lot to me keith !
I tidied a bit of the patio. It is very wet and slippery. I shall buy something to wash it with that kills slime and moss. It will not get any sun now until March … it faces the wrong way for winter sunshine.

Another sunny day (not predicted) We have a product called "Path Weeder" It's for killing weeds etc in pathways and driveways that lasts for about 12 months.
I finished using it this morning as it was sunny and could be the same for the rest of the day, perfect for the weed killer.
I did a little watering and, fed the snails and, finally used a fly spray to kill 100s+++ of ants.

I planted out a tray of 10 little rocket plants which I got for 50p at the weekend into the raised bed trough in front of the shed. Might not get much of a crop from them at this time of year but thought 50p was a bargain. I was going to clear all the tomatoes out of the greenhouse but I ended up just taking out 2 plants & tidying up the others as there's still quite a lot of fruit on them. I picked all the ripe tomatoes & removed all the dying leaves & will give them a little longer.
