Mine don't need any help from me! They self-seed in the strangest places - and I get pink ones as well as the ordinary cream ones, too.

I love our native primrose, i am trying to germinate some but i never seem to have any luck. I've just binned 80 pots of wild primroses, they bit the dust during the winter The sun came out and the crocus opened

They do look like tulips! Is that a clematis all trussed up? I bet you're pleased to see the spring on the way at last. It is a clematis G, i am waiting to see which one it is before i can renovate it. The previous owners were not gardeners at all. Don't you get confused between the green shoots of spring and the green plant tie Rosie? ;D

Oh WF - that was a shame! Your spring has definitely sprung now, though!

I used to sow seed of Barnhaven primroses very successfully when they were in the Lake District. In those days we had to cover the trays in hessian and put them out in a shady place and forget them. They were very successful because the seed could only be bought fresh. I still sow seed of my own primulas, unless I can't find any seed. I have a few types which don't set seed. I have seedlings coming up of Cortusa matthioli (primula family) and I only bought this plant in Scotland last summer. This is because I used green seed as soon as it was ready.
