WOO HOO its been a while but the Liriodendron (Tulip tree) has finally started flowering. Apparently it takes around 25 years before they start flowering so now we know roughly how old it is. (we have two in the garden) I took a close up of the lowest flower so will post it later when I download it.

My Hypericum which was planted in this shady part of the back yard started flowering the other day just in time to get battered by the wet weather. however it will be fine and continue to flower through the summer.

I see the clues for the crossword have been cocked up once again in July's edition. i won't mention what they are so you can check yourselves. Still managed to complete with guesswork in about 5 minutes.

Thank you sweetpea. I was actually thinking of growbags earlier but since I've got a lot of compost to use up I thought I'd put them in pots this year again. I think I'll try growbags next year. I can't grow them in the ground because the floor is paved. Oh but you can and when I get time I will try and explain the method for you. No rush anyway as its too late for this season.

The swifts are back. Saw a small flock of 4 or 5 when out in the garden this morning. No doubt we will see the swallows before long.

if you look between the tomato plants you will see a plastic bottle bottom cut off and inserted into growbag for watering/feeding the cucumbers (2 per growbag) have a small pot inserted between them for watering and a climbing frame rigged up as well.

Update sweetpea. Natasha, my younger son’s partner knew straightaway what the worm was and asked if you have a cat. It is a roundworm which was vomited by the cat. She said I must ask how often you worm your cat? Sounds reasonable, doesn’t it? Yes we have cats Cherry plus there are always a stray or two coming around. however our cats have regular flea and worm treatment and none of them has shown any signs plus where i found that worm there was no sign of a cat or anything having thrown up so still a bit of an enigma. Thanks for input though.

Sorry I haven't been here much these past few days. Sometimes I can't get around to it ...
Here's the little gadget I bought for trimming bushes. It's hand held and you charge it up on the mains. It's got two fittings that can be interchanged. Very handy for trimming little bushes
I'm saying nowt in case I get expelled but surely they wouldn't cope with large shrubs or hedges?

What size pots are best for tomatoes and cucumber in a greenhouse ? I always think I put them in pots that are too small. Thank you. Why put them in pots? Grow them directly in the ground or growbags or as I used to do, ring culture which is an excellent way to get good tomato crops. Never tried it with cucumber though. If you must use pots I would suggest 10" but just shake up a growbag and tuck the loose end under and plant two Toms or Cucs in each with a sunken pot or bottle in the middle for watering into. I will try and take a pic of mine to show what I mean.

in the old g'house yesterday I saw this thing moving on the bench and I believe it was a threadworm but how it got there is a mystery. possibly deposited by a bird on the roof and fell in is the only explanation I can think of. Not my pic but this is what it looked like.
