Can anyone give me any advice on why a lot of my dahlia blooms have brown tips,it seems to start as they are in tight bud and as the bud opens it distorts the flower head? I have sprayed them with a insecticide?

I have used Westland jacks magic this season and been extremely disappointed in it,found it dried out quick and didn't seem to have the 'compost' feel about it and gave me a average quality of plant root growth which didn't seem to knit together compared to some I grew with 'Erin' Would be good to get other views on composts other forum members use and get great results.

I bought 5 1 year old plum trees last November as tall whips on VVA1 root stock is now the time to give them there first prune? looking at reducing the height to 3 foot. thanks for any advice Why would you want to reduce plum trees to a height of 3ft? As they are just 'whips' they need there first prune to encourage 4-5 branches to grow from below the cut to get a 'goblet shape' and create its framework....much like a standard tree
