Thanks for all the info Ian...have you any pictures of your outside structure as we are not permitted to put up polytunnels on our allotments! why? I think it's because the powers that be decided they are not 'athletically pleasing' to the eye!..no problem with greenhouses or large wooden structures..

Just tipped out some of my 17 litre potato bags. Blue belle and Casablanca. Made a few 'sets' of 5 to be left dirty until just before showing. The ones that didn't make the beauty contest will be eaten! Tied up lots of Dahlias and some disbudding/cutting off tired blooms. peeled a few cracked skins off my Jermor shallots ready for re-tying the necks. Always something to do on the plot as you know! Here's a pic, in the left foreground you'll see my Chilli Cayennes growing happily outdoors, have a couple of dozen plants.
Could I ask what's the name of the orange/bronze cactus in the middle of the dahlia beds? Thanks

Sunday was the final show for me at Ramsbottom. Were some good Dahlias there, managed a 1st (MJ) a second and a 3rd . Plus most points in veg classes. A few good Chrysant growers were there and put on an amazing display. A Rose grower turned up from Hampshire, slept in his van and took some of the Rose classes. The usual cakes, preserves were well represented. Great little show, well worth going for some late competition. I'll be back there for sure.
Could you tell me the name of the deep red cactus in picture 2? thanks

What do you think of it anthonyk was very squat with me at the beginning. Yours looks a good height. Yes it is short but stems are a good length
