Thanks for the tip Ian..could anyone advise me if it matters with collerettes if they are grown with tubers or cuttings from tubers?... Does it make any difference to the flowering as in quality?

Hi don't worry too much about tubers not throwing cuttings at this stage of the season it is far too early for most. we are only just into February and any cuttings are far too early unless you are using them as mother plants. If at the moment some are not showing signs of life, don't worry just yet there is plenty of time and if they are still dormant in a couple of weeks then cut the tubers into two with a knife, the shock treatment often works. The best cuttings are always best taken in April even for some giants. I often do not take any cuttings before the first week in March then they tent to come for fun and more importantly root quickly and by the end of April I usually have taken and rooted approx 2500 cutting so. After propagation has finished all the tubers are given away or rowen away. Some tubers miniatures and Poms can be cut up and planted to give a few early blooms. 2500 cuttings!!!! I would love to see your set up...and your plot!

Many thanks markymate and Ian I'm going to give it a try...do you still water as normal or does the membrane mean you can water less often?

Thanks for the welcome, folks, though I hesitate to post on your main thread since I am virtually puddle-jumping to be here... I know this is a localized UK forum, but am interested in the cultivation and show differences. Swan Island definitely has the overwhelming market share for new or casual growers, as their varieties are primarily for cut and garden, and not too worried about the show crowd. Bumble Rumble does okay over here in the shows, but has been vastly overshadowed by NTAC Eileen and Bloomquist Sweet in the last couPle years. Really like the look of NTAC Eileen and Bloomquist sweet!... In fact all the NTAC collerettes look fabulous!

It is a 2001 Gitts origination from over here in the US... Never heard it called it Royal Bumble before. Love this one. About 3.5 feet and plenty of stem on a single disbud. I've grown it a couple seasons, but lost the tubers both times to slow rot. That was before I learned the wisdom of having a backup pot root. Last season I reordered but was sent a mess of a collarette that only shared the colors but not form. Thanks cici and welcome... I post on a mainly US forum website as I have a keen interest in hostas

I've actually been looking at the Keter plastic sheds, has anyone got one of these? The shed will have to be small I only have a tiny garden and I also have 2 dogs who already weave their way between the pots!! Someone has a small plastic shed on our allotment,or should I say 'did' have one until it blew away with all the strong winds! ok if in a sheltered spot I guess

Got mine from eBay under Timberland sheds it was classed as a 'second ' meaning it had a few discoloured boards and a few knot eyes but was a very good price including erection, excellent quality and was tanalished....you can upgrade to a perfect shed but was not worth it to me.One bit of advise is to get one as big as you can fit in your space, mine was a 7x5 wished I had bought a 8x6 now!

I have decided eventually I would like a dahlia with names that link to all the members of my family. Have found one with our street name included and one with my brothers name for future purchases but struggling with other family members but this is what I love about gardening, doing research during the winter ready for the warmer weather. So if this years growings do well this is my plan for 2016. Happy Days I've done that as well. My Nana's name is Audrey and I got Clearview Audrey but I was disappointed. I am trying to pick a collerette and I am sure that one of the reasons why I am tempted to grow Teesbrooke Audrey is the name (together with the fact that purple is my favourite colour.) I was tempted with Clearview Audrey after seeing this photo

Mine too...Karen G,Paso Doble and Edith Jones...now shall I wait and start them off or get them on some heat and try for some cuttings? anthonyk, have grown Pasadoble for the last two years, a lovely looking flower, but found, if you didn't keep an eye on it, the stems get very leggy and weak. Found, growing 16 to 20 up, produced a strong stem and a lovely flower . Hope you have a good season... Good luck
Thanks for the tip markymate
