Ryecroft Zoe Now this one i like. Again, careful tuber selection and this could be a winner.

Mine are really forming the blooms now. Stems on these winholme diane are a bit weak, never had that before, hopefully a bit more water will firm them up a bit.

Fully formed susan gilliott....amazing what a few days can do to a bloom as the depth has improved a bit. Here's some with staleen condessa

For showing, i'd cut off any badly damaged leaves to make the arrangement better but it's the bloom that counts.

nicely shown, another little tip for people, if after arranging you feel that one of the blooms should be a bit further over, or you go through the oasis, you can take a little of the stems you have cut off ...about 1or 2 inches.....manoeuvere your bloom to where you want it, then push the stem alongside it into the oasis. That will hold it in it's new place.

At the top Oretti Bliss, middle Mary's Jomonda, Winholme Diane, bottom Senzoe Ursula. Oretti all over the place, though better than the first blooms. They're not too bad considering the rain that's been on them.

we'll see how the rest of the blooms compare and how they look in a vase....both look quite good, the magnum is a bit more refined i think. Backs of the blooms look good on both.

WF, do they supply the vases at your show? If not, i would suggest you do not use a clear glass one, ideally it should be 12in tall with a 4in neck, also you will need a block or a round piece of green oasis for staging your dahlias. I do not have a vase that size at home, but have found a straight vase that is a bit small 8in tall 3in neck. Staging 4 blooms has i have already said is unusual. I will take the vase down to the allotment tomorrow and cut 4 dahlias from the little bed i am using, and stage them down there, taking pics has i go along and then we will have a good idea what they will look like after staging. i have loads of full size bikini exbibition vases, i could send one down......

Just spoke to Halls, they do know that they have mixed up rebel and magnum. Also spoke about the general state of cuttings and like everyone they said they had a bad year for storing tubers and used every method possible to complete orders. They use something called hammer cuttings that involves usining the stem and leaf and those are what i had quite a lot of. Oretti Bliss they thought they had rogued out the problem plants...like i had....but had to use pot tubers as well as field for cuttings, so therein lies the problem. Ruskin Andrea, they have never seen one the colour i have. They say they do rogue out all plants 3 times a year meaning in the Autumn only the best are used for the following season and all their plants are consistent. I think he'll be having a more careful look this year He was very apologetic and welcomed feedback as without it they don't know they have problems. So all in all, doesn't help me much for this year, but next year and careful selection from what i have will hopefully sort out all the above.

Dikara Moon. From the description i was expecting a larger bloom. They may well go bigger but because of the cuttings and how i had to grow them they probably didn't have much chance of getting to size. and what i think may be Ryecroft Magnum Decision now is which one of these to grow

susan gilliott little bit to go yet, but tel, i think you are right, it does lack depth. Cracking stems though. Quite a nice size too.
