That's a shame Geranium, it would be lovely to see some more photos of Widget.

For SueA - the new girls Panda, Cherry, and Huffy L-R in first photo. They're Millefleur Pekins (I like the name, means 'million flowers') - I think they're pretty, but my Mum-in-law doesn't lol! (She doesn't hate them, I think she just never really saw a young chicken up close before. They do look a bit out of proportion until their combs grow in properly.) They're currently living in rather a swanky purple-and cream coop and run that my husband put together, painted with the Cuprinol 'Garden Shades' left-overs from my garden shed. Too expensive to waste, that paint! At least all the wood in my garden matches! They will be allowed out in the garden when they settle in.

Didn't realise I'd named one of them after our Esteemed Moderator, lol The chicken was just round and red... They're not laying yet, would expect within a few weeks to get eggs, they'll be small (probably about half the size of a big hens egg) and I hope they'll taste nice. They are refusing to try new foods (salad, weeds etc) yet, but hoping they'll make nicer eggs than Aldi, at least!

Good for you, Bess. Widget has developed a liking for 'gardening' . He grabs any plant pots I leave within his reach, plant and all, runs off with it and goodness knows where the plant will end up or if it will survive at all! He is trying to create a putting green too, by digging holes in the lawns, He likes the roses off watering cans, pity he can't water my plants for me! I broke my camera so still no pics, sorry.

I actually feel honoured Bess. I hope Cherry is a good layer. I would think the eggs would be the size of bantam eggs. They will be very useful.

Widget's only trying to help Geranium! Luckily you've missed the 'bird flu' ban Bess, the free range hens have only been allowed outdoors recently around here, we'd started to get the little stickers on boxes saying the hens were being kept indoors for their own protection.

Thank you for bringing “Pets’ forward SueA. For months the gentle Hungarian Vizsla has had ear trouble and has regular trips to the vet and drops in his ears. The vet on the island did not even take a swab, so Jeremy looked with his otoscope and found the ears were swollen shut, so no drops were getting through. He was taken to a vet in town and had an operation after a course of prednisolone to open the ear canal. The vet assured Jeremy that this exposed the eardrum and it was now very clean. However, another operation yesterday showed there were no eardrums and Schmoo can never swim again. Which vet is telling the truth? Schmoo is a strong swimmer and loves catching crabs and frightening us with his chasing of stingrays. Also, the anaesthetic was hard on Schmoo the first time and he arrived home really wonky. This time, he had a better medication. Why was this one not used initially? The operation was to coat the eardrums with a new product. He is allergic to March fly and mosquito bites and the lumps where he was bitten stood out an inch from his body. These have now lost patches of hair and look quite unsightly and large. He will see a dermatologist in a fortnight when he comes to the university in a fortnight. This smooth haired Vizsla is the one Adam Henson from Countryfile has. Schmoo was my dog for the 2 years I was in Australia. Upsetting!
