Yesterday it rained all morning and afternoon .I therefore spent most of the time in the greenhouses.Started going through all the plants as I do every so often.I look at each plant and tidy them up removing dead leaves and flowers if needed, trim them if needed and pot them on if needed and bin them if they are no good. Today has been nice after all the rain yesterday.Carried on with the weeding this afternoon. This evening I have been to church to plant my spare bedding plants in the garden there.

Been on the allotment this afternoon and evening.Just had a shower for about 15 minutes so I sat in the car till it stopped. Put more ties on the sweet peas and put the third blanching collars on the leeks. Sowed some radish and some more turnips. Spent the rest of the time weeding.Got rid of the sprouting broccoli which had gone to seed.

This evening I have washed the potatoes that I have grown for the R.H.S.show at Tatton Park. Johnny Woods, the secretary at the veg meeting that I go to gave the tubers out a few months ago asking us to grow them. These have all been grown from ten tubers in three bags and a large bucket. The variety is Blue Belle. You will notice that a few are a bit scabby I will sort them out tomorrow and pick the best ones out for the stand at the show.We can use the scabby ones at home. They only need peeling. We will also use those that are too small.

There are 12 sections in the herb wheel at Blackleach country park but in 6 sections there were either no plants or only a few because they had been lost over last winter.I went to the garden centre this morning and bought 18 herbs (3 each of 6 kinds) and I hope to plant them tomorrow. Went on the allotment after.Planted some Lobelia "Queen Victoria"in one of the herbaceous borders. Gave the onions and leeks a feed of nitro chalk .Put longer canes on the tomato plants in the poly tunnel. In the brassica bed there are already some sprouts and cabbages.Weeded the rest of the bed and planted 12 calabrese. Before going to school this afternoon I took 70 odd cuttings from the herbs I bought this morning. If these all grow I will be able to replace any at Blackleach that have been lost rather than buy more. This evening I have led a wild flower walk round Blackleach. We are always hoping,of course ,that the weather will be kind to us for these walks.Tonight it was perfect and 16 people turned up.

Went on the allotment this afternoon. One reason for going was to pinch crops from other peoples plots to take to the R.H.S. show at Tatton. No,I asked permission at a meeting we had last Monday. Two people said I could have some broad beans.I picked what courgetes I had on my plot but there are not as many as usual.I also got some rhubarb .I will be going in the morning and taking all these then helping to set up the stand.I had already given Johnny Woods (the secretary) the potatoes I showed you a picture of last week because he needed them today.I had to meet him last Friday to give him the potatoes and for him to give me a pass to get in tomorrow. While on the allotment I planted some beetroot from small pots and sowed another row direct. Also sowed another row of turnips. This evening I carried on going through the plants in the greenhouse as I did yesterday.

Went on the allotment this afternoon but it started pouring down so I went in the poytunnel and potted some carnations from 3 inch pots into 5 inch. There are some others in 5 inch that need to go into final pots but I ran short of compost. I think I have told you before that I keep a record of when the chrysanth buds appear, when they are secured, when they show colour and when the blooms are ready for cutting.I started doing this this evening.I numbered all the plants and wrote them in my book then looked at each plant to see what stage the buds (if any)were at and wrote this information in the book. Now I have started I will have to look at them twice a week. They are very late this year.I don,t think I will have any ready for Southport or my local show which is the week after.

The forecast was for a wet day today so I thought I would be in the greenhouse all day. However it only did a few spots of rain this evening.I did spend the morning in the greenhouse though because Rosemary needed the car.I carried on going through the plants as I was doing the other day. I was able to spend the afternoon and evening on the allotment.I just called at school first to feed the tomatoes. On the allotment I went in the polytunnel first and finished what I was doing yesterday with the carnations. Some in 5 inch pots needed going into their final pots. Those already in final pots needed tidying up .Every time I go on the allotment to do a particular job I find some other job that needs doing.I intended carrying on with the weeding but the broad beans needed staking and tying.I have a large clump of Crocosmia "Lucifer ".It was leaning all over the path stopping you from walking along so I thought I had better stake that too. When I did get round to the weeding I concentrated on the paths between the veg beds which were getting rather bad. Tomorrow I will be at the R.H.S. show at Tatton Park .For most of the day I will be stood in front of the National veg society stand talking to people and answering questions .If you will be there please come and introduce yourself and have a chat.I would love to meet some of you.
