It looks lovely as always Derek & well worth a gold, they'll be in trouble if the Olympic committee see the 'Olympic rings' though, no-one is allowed to use the symbol without permission! ;D

Somebody told me yesterday that a butcher had made some olympic rings in his shop window with sausages and he was made to take them down.

Didn,t have much time today but first of all I went to the tip with 8 sacks of weeds from the allotment. Then did a bit of staking in the garden and spent the rest of the time carrying on sorting plants in the greenhouse.

Summer has come at last Went on the allotment this afternoon .Planted some phlox and achillea on one of the hrbaceous borders. The annual beds that I weeded and planted 4 weeks ago have thousands of tiny weeds coming up again. Went between the plants with weedol to get rid of them while they were small.I hadn't enough to do all the beds so I mixed some more when I got home.Spent the rest of the time staking. The gladioli and some of the annuals needed doing.Ran short of canes so I will have to call for some more tomorrow. This evening I finished what I was doing with the plants in the greenhouse.During the process I have discarded a lot of plants that were no longer any good so I emptied all the pots ,sorted them out and put them away.

A full day on the allotment, morning, afternoon and evening.Just called at school first to feed the tomatoes Finished staking the gladioli and asters and did the French beans.Had to go for some more canes first. Used some more weedol on the annual beds.Weeds on the dahlia bed were a bit bigger so I decided to hoe these. Weeds on the paths were even bigger so I continued to dig these out. I have a bit of blight in the potato leaves. On some other allotments it is worse.I know it will spread so I cut down all the haulms before it gets any worse both those in the ground and those in buckets.Harvested those in buckets and they were quite good. No scabby marks on them so they should be O.K.for showing.

Today I have washed the potatoes I brought home yesterday and dressed the shallots. Then sorted out which of each may be O.K.for showing (my first show is the weekend after next ) Planted some of my spare plants where there were gaps in the herbaceous border. I told you that I had planted some of my spare bedding plants in the garden at church. The marigolds have been eaten by slugs so I went this evening and planted some begonias in their place. Then went on the allotment and carried on with the weeding.

Went to my son's this morning to cut his privet hedges. He has three ,2 at the front and one at the back.I use his electric hedge trimmer because I haven't got one.I did two of the hedges and was just starting the third and guess what I did! Yes,I cut through the cable.A professional gardener who I know was working in a garden nearby and when I told him he said he had done it several times. It's only the second time I have done it.I managed to re-wire it after half an hour but it didn't work.I guessed that it had blown the fuse but couldn,t find any there so I brought it home, changed the fuse and it now works The cable is just about a foot shorter than it was before.I had to go back this afternoon and do the other hedge. When I got home I sprayed the chrysanths with systhane .They are a disaster this year. Many are full of white rust and I keep spraying to try to stop it spreading to the others. They are also flowering very late and many will be too late for the shows. I also tidied the floor in one of the greenhouses. Went on the allotment this evening and sprayed the chrysanths there which are all sprays. These are largely free from white rust . There is just one variety with a bit on but I am spraying as a preventative. Harvested some of the onions that I thought were large enough for the "not over 8 oz."classes at the shows. Spent the rest of the time weeding.

Only had an hour or so spare this evening but I went on the allotment and gave the dahlias and spray chrysanths a feed of maxicrop. We are going to our daughters in Wales on Sunday till Thursday .There are several jobs I would like to do tomorrow before I go.I don't think I will have time to do any more weeding but this evening I spent some time pulling up large weeds then they won't seed while I am away.

Like this On the 2nd row down in the add tags section, 4th across, is the image icon. Click on that and the following appears [/img] between the 2 brackets you insert the URL of your picture...the bit that says... i47.tinypic.com/ipcf9y.jpg.... Then repeat the process as many times as you want

Thanks for this information,Scrumpy.I have written it down.I am going on holiday tomorrow though so it will have to wait till I am back home before I can try it out. Been on the allotment most of the afternoon and evening but kept getting rained off.Between showers,I have fed the sweet peas, runner beans, climbing French beans, broad beans and gladioli with general maxicrop. Sowed some carrots in three frames in bore holes filled with the compost I made on Thursday,I grow them in frames then I can cover them with fleece to keep the carrot flies off.A 4ft.by 2 ft.frame has 18 bore holes. No more gardening for a few days now as I am going to Wales till Thursday.Next Friday I will be getting my exhibits ready for the first show of the season.
