We arrived home from Wales this evening .Had a nice day for the christening yesterday but it has rained all day today. At Edenfield show on Saturday I put 61 exhibits in ,15 of which were pot plants. I got 12 firsts,12 seconds and 10 thirds. Got 2 trophies, one for most points in the gladioli classes and one for most points in general flowers. It was a very high quality show considering the terrible weather we have had. There were more chrysanths than at all other shows put together and a lot of dahlias.I was pleased to win the bronze medal in dahlias with Alf's Mascot This was the only first in dahlias but I got second out of 7 entries with Deb's kiwi and second with Bryn Terfel. Tony Bracegirdle was there and my immediate thought when I saw him was that I would stand no chance against his roses. He is after all ,I think, the best rose grower in the country. However I beat him in two classes I am going to put a few pictures on now

This is a class for one stem of a floribunda rose. Mine ,which is Anne Harkness is at the back with a red card on and Tony's is at the front with a yellow card which is a second.Tony told me after that I shouldn,t have won and the judge doesn,t know anything about judging roses!

This is a class for a vase or bowl of garden flowers for effect.Tony did that nice bowl of roses on the right but the judge gave me first with my vase of mixed annuals in the centre.

This is a class for a vase of any kind of flowers not mentioned elsewhere in the schdule,a minimum of three blooms.I put 6 African marigolds in and got first. The two vases on the left which got second and third are Alice Bracegirdle's (Tony's wife). They are French marigolds and rudbeckia.

Class 53 is for a vase of mixed annuals and class 54 a vase of mixed perennials and I won both these classes. This is the last picture. Show season is over for another year (I think). Two people have been trying to persuade me to go to one in November but I don't know if I will.If I go I will only have a few veg so I don't know if it is worth going.
