Some of last year's are still in the ground! I should have dug them up, but that cold weather hit so suddenly that I didn't get round to it. I'll have to wait and see whether they've survived. (Doubtful!)

Just 2 varieties not showing any sign of life, am i worried no. Its the same 2 that were the last to wake up last season. Of all the other varieties, there is a least one tuber showing life, so far.

It does, Tel - especially as two of them are the ones I dug up following your advice. ;D ;D

I am really glad they have survived for you Geranium. I know a lot of dahlia growers up and down the country, especially in the south, are counting the cost of having to replace them. Those people that grow show varieties the cost of replacement is not cheap.

I left three in the ground in another area - including the yellow one you saw on 't'other site - remember? The soil over there isn't too good. Really, I need to dig it over but can't because of other plants, so I just top dress it with compost every year. I can't imagine that the tubers in there will have survived. They certainly weren't expensive ones, though.

Mine are doing nothing I might have to pot some more up because I'm bored with waiting I've been right back through this thread trying to find a post of geraniums. She asked about her dahlias being in flower for her open day. I've been back through the 2010 thread and found I potted my tubers up on 27/02/2010. When I planted them in the garden at the beginning of April they had flower buds on them. Unfortunately the frosts in the middle of April took a few of these but they were definitely flowering in June.

I'm sorry you lost your flowers, WF, but that's very encouraging for me. Thanks. My new dahlia tubers have just arrived, so I'll be potting them up today. They won't get any heat, though - I want them for my hot border in August - September.

I've just been sorting out some more tubers to pot up and I noticed a few have shoots on them. These are not the ones I wanted to pot up and was hoping just to replant them when the weather warms up. What should I do with them now?

Can't you pot them up and then plant the plant later? (If you see what I mean!)

Question for Tel,
I am grwing Amber Festival this year, how many up and what kind of stopping to flower 'days' does it normally have.
Plan was to grow it 7 up and presumably being a small about 60 days I would think ?
Have you ever grown them in pots ? if so would I be looking at growing them about 4 up ?
Mark
