It's almost 10 years since I retired, and I didn't want to go back. I had various invitations, but never accepted. It wasn't 'my' school any longer.

I went to collect my new reading glasses, and just happened to go to the GC on the way home! ;D I bought three more Aquilegias and fell for this pretty apricot coloured Violet. They were on offer - three for £10, so I bought three and they look just right round my Viburnum tinus variegatum. I do hope they spread like the white/mauve ones do. I also got a Euphorbia characias 'Wulfenii' as the one in my top border is getting rather 'woody'. I reprieved it as there seems to be new growth, and planted the new one next to it.

Shouldn't they be as easy as normal Violas from seed? I should have a try.

How lovely - I'd love one in my garden but they don't seem to like it here.

I went to the Rare Plant Fair at Wells Cathedral yesterday. There weren't as many nurseries there, but as one of them was supposed to be coming from Cheshire, I'm not surprised! It was bitterly cold, but I found some treasures. I didn't know there was a perennial Myosotis - but there is! It's called 'My oh My'. I spotted a winter flowering Iris, too - Iris lazica. New to me! It prefers light shade, which is unusual. What else did I buy - a white Erythronium, a lemon yellow Anemone x lipsiensis, an Erysimum 'Winter Joy' which is a lovely colour and is supposed to stay compact; an amethyst Cowichan Primula, and another Ipheion 'Charlotte Bishop' to join the one I already have. There are two more little woodland plants but I can't remember what they are. The good thing about plant fairs is the excellent prices they charge, which are much lower than GCs, if you could get the plants there anyway! I only paid £3 - £4 per plant. On the way home I called in at a Nursery where I found the very rose I've decided on for a trough - 'Golden Showers'. That was only £8, so I've saved the cost of p&p (£12) buying online!

I have the iris lazica and love it, mine is more in full sun and has grown to a nice clump, I wish the flowers were a bit taller though, they seem to mostly nestle in the leaves, but a welcome sight when not much else is around

I was going to go to a rare plant fair at Ness Botanic gardens yesterday but it was snowed off! Received the free Zephirine Drouhin rose from T&M today, doesn't look very promising, very tiny & dead looking but hopefully it will spring into life when planted out & when the weather picks up. I might just stick it in a pot for now.

I'm sorry to hear that, Sue. The rare plant fairs are very good places to find little 'treasures' that GCs don't stock. Sorry about your rose, too - hope she survives.
Yes, Lou, I have one of the Chatham Island ones - from a rare plant fair! ;D it's a Myosotidium hortensia, and nothing like a Myosotis. Mine has survived the winter, but it didn't flower last year. I hope it does this summer.
I thought I'd plant my Iris lazica where I'll be able to see it, Grindle. It's so pretty that it'd be a shame tucked away somewhere.
