Silly question - do dwarf lilacs sucker as bad as normal ones? One of the reasons I don't have any lilacs because when I was doing other folks' gardens lilac suckers were a right pita Mine doesn't SP, its been in the ground about 10 years now. I've no idea what rootstock its grafted onto but its grown to a height of 5' and never suckered. It was about 18" tall when I bought it. It has lots of flowers but they are much smaller.

I went to meet a friend at a Nursery half-way between our homes, complete with my 'list'. I managed to get everything that was on it - mostly 'gap-fillers', but I found a lovely pink Veronica spicata 'Heidekind' which should fit well in the wall border, and a new one on me - an Aralia cordata 'Sun King'.

My min lilac is over 10 years as it was already in a pot when I brought it here. It is a small shrub, flowers well and does not have suckers.

It was furnished to the ground but after two years of thinking about it, I lifted it to display the trunk, and recently hit it back even further. There is also a clematis running through it.

The Arbutus is 8 years old Lou, and in this case, it looks much better having had the canopy lifted and Husband took some growth off the top. The branches break like dry sticks when they are bent too far, but it did not matter because the tree grows fast and needed thinning out. It regenerates from bare branches like a yew does, but not quite as prolifically. The flowers attract a lot of butterflies.

It sounds like it will do better in the ground, rather than the pot I had planned to put it in.....

I only went to the Nursery who provide plants for an additional plant stall on my open days, to talk about details! I didn't take any money, either. I spotted a Siberian Iris - 'Butter and Sugar' so it was a case of buy now, pay later.
