Here are a couple of my latest plant purchases. This section of my border was a bit neglected so yesterday I worked plenty of compost into it and planted the following which have been stuck in pots for weeks now getting in the way. I'm chuffed as I now have not a single plant languishing in a pot getting in the way!

I think part of the reason I had neglected this area is because I have a real problem with Marestail which keeps popping up. Last year (and the one before) I just kept pulling the tops off knowing it would keep springing back. This year, is it just me or is it finally starting to look weaker?....

I have been fighting it for 20 years on the allotment Steve, digging it out, spraying and hoeing all to no avail.

That corner will look good when it all establishes SteveN. I like Annabelle because it is strong and not 'whippy'. Obviously some of those little things will be moved when it grows up.
The marestail obviously has to be weakened by both you and Tel with the work you have put into eradicating it.

Nice selection of plants SteveN, I've got loads of pots of plants dotted around at the moment, all waiting for our garden club plant stall at the village street market day in mid June, I shall be glad to see them go.

Looks good Steve - I've still got things lurking in pots waiting to go in the garden!

I'll be hard pruning the Hydrangea each year and growing it more like a perennial rather than letting it grow into a large shrub

I took your advice and hard pruned my Hydrangea paniculata 'Vanilla Fraise'. It is now leafing up into a lovely bush.

Haha -I can't walk across the area outside my greenhouses - it looks like a Nursery, so I know exactly how you feel, Sue! The tables are coming today so I'll be busy shifting them all round to put out for tomorrow.

Just back from Morrisons with a clematis montana (light pink flowers) £2.00 Going to try and grow it up the dead laburnum. In Surrey garden I was plagued with marestail. Here in Pembrokeshire it is non existent There used to be a weedkiller specially to kill marestail but I can't remember what it was called or even if still available.

Clematis Montana will cover it very well SP and it could be evergreen.

its called Warwickshire pink or something like that. There is one called 'Warwickshire Rose' Sweetpea, says it has bronze foliage, looks lovely in the pictures, but doesn't say it is evergreen
