Been on the allotment afternoon and evening. Planted the remaining 10 runner beans. Gave another plot holder 20 runner beans that I had grown for him and showed him how to put the cane structure up. Spent the rest of the time getting the dahlia beds ready for planting. I have the main dahlia bed which holds 90 plants and a smaller one which holds 24.On the smaller bed I just grow collarettes (Don Hill ),waterlilies(Taratahi Ruby), and singles(Teesebrook red eye ),8 of each. All the other types are grown on the main bed. I had weeded the smaller bed before but it took me the rest of the afternoon and part of this evening to weed the main bed. Then I put fish, blood and bone on both beds and raked and hoed them. I then started putting the canes up but didn't have time to finish them. I have several things ready for planting as well as the dahlias but every time I want to plant anything I have weeding to do which is time consuming.

15 New guinea impatiens arrived fro Dobies . Potted them into three and a half inch pots. Went to the garden centre for some basket plants and also some herbs for the herb wheel at Blackleach country park. This afternoon I put all my dahlias on the lawn and sorted them out deciding which I am growing. I have plenty that I don't need but I am having a plant stall at church in two weeks so I can sell them there. Started planting them on the allotment this evening but only time to plant about 40

I told you that I went to our daughter Heather's in Wales Monday and Tuesday but Rosemary stayed till yesterday.Heather brought her home last night and she is staying here till tomorrow. This afternoon we have planted two hanging baskets for her.She wanted to watch me do them. They went shopping after so I went on the allotment and continued planting the dahlias. Heather came on the allotment with me this evening and did some weeding while I finished the dahlias. She weeded practically all the brassica bed . She did a good job . I could do with her coming every weekend :)There are 114 dahlias planted on the allotment. I have just kept 10 for planting at home.

Heather went back home to Wales last night I have been doing hanging baskets most of the day today. I have done eight for my friend Alan accross the road. I have twelve to do for myself and didn't get time to do them all. I had first to empty those that had winter and spring plants in . I potted up plants that I thought would keep till autumn

I hadn't finished what I wanted to say about what I did yesterday but I don't know how to amend the post. Some sections of the herb wheel were already full , some part full and some empty . I put in some parsley I had grown from seed and some rue grown from cuttings but all the rest were from the garden centre. In the afternoon I carried on with my hanging baskets and in the evening I went to the veg meeting at which the speaker was talking about fruit.

This afternoon I started getting the tubs ready for planting. Removed the plants that were in them and potted up some that I want to keep . Went on the allotment this evening and planted some caqbbages and cauliflowers. The bed is only half full because I sow these crops in rotation as I don't want 20 cauliflowers all ready at once. I always cover this bed with netting supported on a structure of canes to keep the cabbage white butterflies off. I fixed up the canes but didn't get time to sort the nets out and put them on before it went dark.I can't go at all tomorrow so next time I go I wll have to examine the plants for butterflies eggs before I put the nets on.

Went to the allotment first to put the nets over the brassica bed which I didn't get time to do on Saturday. I examined the plants first and I did find a cluster of eggs of a large white butterfly(large whites lay in clusters but small whites lay their eggs singly). Spent the rest of the morning and afternoon doing 18 more hanging baskets, for 4 people. Didn't finish them because I had to go out this evening.
