I hadn't much time after shopping this morning but I went in the greenhouse and potted the final 7 rooted regal pelargonium cuttings. This afternoon I had to take Rosemary to hospital for an X Ray. Just had an hour on the allotment after and another hour this evening. Jean on the allotment, who is Paws 57 on this forum, gave me some seeds of Pak Choi a few months ago . I have never grown this before but I sowed the seeds in cell trays and thinned them to one per cell. They have grown well and I considered transferring them to pots. However I decided to plant them out today on the onion bed ,where my large onions had been growing. This afternoon I removed a few weeds and raked in some fish, blood and bone and I planted them this evening. Jean comes on the allotments every evening so I told her that I had planted them.

We had a new cooker delivered and fitted today but we didn't know what time it was coming. So I couldn't go to the hut as I usually do on Saturday morning and I had to stay at home this afternoon . It didn't arrive till about 3.30. So I had a day at home in the garden and greenhouse. I mowed the lawns , then potted about 30 wallflowers from cell trays into 3 inch pots. I then removed the shading from the greenhouses. Not an easy job. The sides are easy enough as it wipes off with an old towel but the tops are more difficult. I have to tie a towel onto a brush and wet it and wipe it off with this then swill it with my hose pipe.

After going a walk this afternoon I just had an hour on the allotment and another hour this evening. I removed the blanching collars from the leeks but none of them were any good. I usually have some nice leeks but not this year. None had grown properly and most of them had rotted away. Most of the sweet peas had finished before and I had got rid of the plants and today I pulled the remainder and put them on the compost. All the gladioli had finished so I removed the canes and brought them home but didn't have time to dig the plants up.

We had a morning of heavy showers and another early afternoon . Between showers I fed the hanging baskets, tubs and tomatoes again. Went to the hut for some potting compost . The winter onion sets had arrived so I got some of them. I planted 36 of them in 3 inch pots. I also sowed twelve 3 inch pots with cauliflowers "all the year round" and sowed some lettuce "arctic king" in a cell tray. When the weather dried up in the afternoon I did some tying up in the garden and weeded the rose beds.

Been on the allotment part of this morning and part of this afternoon. The broad beans were full of chocolate spot disease so I picked all the pods and cut all the plants down and took them home and put them in the re-cycling bin , not on the compost. This disease only affects the leaves so I think the beans are still usable. Picked some Climbing French beans , 2 marrows, 2 sweet corn , 2 cabbages and 4 carrots.

It is our harvest at church on Sunday and I always do a basket of veg and take some flowers. Some of the veg I collected last time I went to the allotment were for it and I went this afternoon and picked the first sprouts and cut some dahlias. There weren't as many dahlias as I would have liked though. When I got home I cut some chrysanths of which I have plenty. This evening I have made up the basket of veg. I am taking this and the flowers to church in the morning on my way to the hut. Before I put them in the car I will take pictures of them then I can show you tomorrow. Thirty catalogues came from Dobies today for me to give out to members of our horticultural society and allotments. We get 40% discount on seeds and 10% on all other things (bulbs, plug plants and equipment).I will take some to the hut tomorrow. We have an allotment meeting next Tuesday evening so I will take some there too.

As I said yesterday I went to church with a basket of veg and flowers for our harvest.Took a picture of the flowers before I went and took one of the basket when I had put it in front of the church. Then went to the hut and took some Dobies catalogues. It was raining most of the morning while I was at the hut. This afternoon was drier but still some showers so I didn't risk going anywhere. I went in the greenhouse and took 65 fuchsia cuttings, 5 each of 13 varieties. Fixed up a larger propagator to put them on and also those I took a few days ago. Chrysanths and dahlias for the harvest

We set out for a walk this afternoon but we hadn't got far when it started raining so we came home. It dried up later so I did my walk round Blackleach.

This morning I cut down all the chrysanths that have flowered and put them in the re-cycling bin. The forecast was for showers today so we didn't risk going a walk this afternoon. I went to school to feed the tomatoes. It didn't rain, though, so I did some weeding on the root crop bed. I also harvested some French beans, beetroot and sweet corn and left them in the polytunnel

It has rained much of the day, not hard but it was too wet to work outside. So, I went in the greenhouse and did some tidying up of the plants. Got a lot of dead or dying leaves off the tomato plants. Cut most of the fuchsias down by half and some of the pelargoniums. This afternoon I had to go to Bolton, to Boots for a hearing test but while I was in Bolton I went to Wilkinsons to spend a vouchure that my youngest grandson bought me. I bought £17 worth of bulbs with it, daffodols, tulips and crocuses to plant in my tubs when I have taken the summer bedding from them. I have been to a meeting on the allotments this evening. I took my Dobies catalogues to give out and told them about the discounts we get .When everyone who wanted one had taken it I put the rest in the toilet and asked the secretary to send an email round so that anyone who wasn't at the meeting will know about them.

We couldn't go shopping yesterday as we usually do because we had to stay in waiting for a parcel to be collected, so we had to go today and I hadn't much time after. This afternoon I finished what I was doing with the plants in the larger greenhouse.

A dull day but it didn't rain. When I got home from Blackleach about 3.30 I took Rosemary a walk in her wheelchair. When we got home I had just time to cut some chrysanths. Some of the chrysanths I showed at Edenfield on September 18th have been in a vase in our house ever since, nearly three weeks and they were still reasonable .Chrysanths last in a vase longer than any other flower I know. Anyway, Rosemary said she wanted some new ones and she now has some.
