Had a full day on the allotment mostly weeding. As you probably know I cover my brassica bed with a net to keep the butterflies off, supported on a structure of canes.I started weeding this bed yesterday . I wanted to finish it today but I decided it would be easier if I removed the net and canes . I did finish weeding it after. There are so many beds needing weeding that I didn't know which to do next but decided to do the onion bed . I harvested the rest of the onions first even though they were not as big as I would have liked. The potato bed which is now empty had hundreds of tiny weeds coming up and I decided to treat these with weedol.

Only had half an hour spare this afternoon after school but I went on the allotment and cut down the remaining gladioli and began digging them up. This evening I have been to the veg meeting. It was a mini show. There were 4 classes and I entered 3 of them and got 2 thirds. There were only 8 people there and only 4 of us entered anything which is disappointing. Numbers at these meetings have dropped very much recently. There were only about 12 at the last meeting and we used to get 20 or 30.

Went to my sons house this morning and pulled out his bedding plants . Started weeding the borders where they had been. They are full of bittercress. Had to go out this afternoon but before it was time to go I had an hour in the greenhouse.Potted up into small pots all the rooted streptocarpus leaf cuttings. Also some cuttings from a streptocarpus saxorum which I had been given a few months ago. Had an hour on the allotment when I came home and finished digging up the gladioli . This bed is overgrown with chickweed and I started weeding it after.I don't keep my gladioli corms . I give them to someone else on the allotments. I would rather buy them new each year.

Went on the allotment this afternoon and finished getting all the large weeds out of the gladioli bed. It needs going over again more thoroughly to get the others out. Got rained off at 3.00 pm so I came home and went in the greenhouse. It rained hard this afternoon for a while. Did some more potting up of rooted cuttings-Geraniums,carnations and a few fuchsias and coleus. It is our harvest at church on Sunday and tomorrow I will be cutting flowers and sorting veg to take because I will have to take them to church on Saturday morning on my way to the hut.I will be doing a basket of veg. I have potatoes and onions at home but I will go to the allotment for the rest. I have some nice chrysanths at present and plenty of dahlias if this rain hasn't spoiled them. The chrysanths will be O.K.as they are under cover. It's a pity there are no more shows but I can regard this as a show as it is a chance to show people my produce. I have taken 3 pictures of my chrysanths to show you before I cut them tomorrow.

Went to the allotment this morning and part of the afternoon for the veg and flowers for the harvest. The rain has spoiled some of the dahlias and the spray chrysanths are very spotted. So I cut the dahlias that were O.K.and some other flowers and the veg that I needed for the basket. When I came home this afternoon I cut the chrysanths some of which I have just shown you pictures of.Can't understand why but the spray chrysanths I grow at home were O.K., and not like those on the allotment and they are not covered like the disbud varieties are.So I cut some of these too.I have made up the veg basket this evening. I will take my camera to church and take a picture of it there and show you on Sunday evening.

A nice day today and I had the afternoon on the allotment.Planted the winter onions. I plant them on the brassica bed where earlier crops have been harvested.Sprinkled some growmore on first and hoed it in.I plant them on this bed because because next year it will be the root crop bed,and is the only bed that isn't manured in the winter so the onions will be left undisturbed till they are big enough to harvest. Spent the rest of the time weeding. One of the annual beds from which most of the flowers had been cut was full of mainly chickweed.Like I did with the gladioli bed I forked it over removing most of the chickweed.I then began going over the gladioli bed more thoroughly trying to get the remaining weeds out. When I have finished this I will do the same with this annual bed.
