Thanks, Grindle. Been in the garden most of the day.I fed the hanging baskets, tubs, tomatoes peppers and aubergines with maxicrop tomato. Very windy today and two of my sunflowers had been blown over and were lying accross the lawn so I re-staked them. later, another one had done the same so I staked that again. Also took some more wood from the frame over the dahlia bed.

Mostly dry today, just a few light showers. I finished shifting the wood from over the dahlia bed. It took me a while because some of the bolts were difficult to undo as they were rusty. During a shower I went in the greenhouse and potted some rooted fuchsia cuttings and some salvias.

Today I went to the re-cycling centre with all the wood I had removed from over the dahlia bed. I tied up all the dahlias again and did some weeding in the front garden. I can get round the back of the dahlia bed easier to attend to them now that all the wood has gone. I also potted a few more rooted cuttings in the greenhouse (pelargoniums and salvias).

There was no art club at Blackleach this afternoon so I came home at 12.00 after the wellbeing walk. It is our harvest festival at church on Sunday so I have been cutting flowers to decorate the church and I also intend doing a basket of veg like I did for Whitefield show. Before it was time to go to school this afternoon I cut some chrysanths and dahlias and a few other flowers. I already have some veg here that I can use but this evening I went to the allotment for some more and some dahlias and a few other flowers. I wanted to get all this done today because the weather forecast for tomorrow is for rain and strong winds.

It stated raining at 11.30 and carried on all day and rather windy too. Two of my sunflowers have blown over again. Before it started raining I cut a few more flowers for the harvest. When I cut flowers to put in vases I remove all the bottom leaves but I didn't yesterday, just to save time. So when it was raining I worked under the carport and removed all the leaves . I then made up a basket of veg for the harvest. I have a lot of typing to do so I decided to carry on with it this afternoon because it was raining and I had nothing particular to do in the greenhouse. What I have to type are "Seasonal jobs" articles for the National Vegetable magazine.

This morning I took the flowers, the basket and two marrows to church for the harvest tomorrow. I just left Rosemary for 20 minutes to take them but I couldn't leave her any longer to go to the hut. It has been windy yesterday and today and three of my sunflowers have blown over again. Rather than stake them again I decided to cut them down stake them up again .I cut them up and put them in sacks to take to the compost on the allotment. There are still three plants standing upright. They are far too tall and difficult to stake so I don't think I will grow them again. Next year I will try to find a variety that doesn't grow as tall. When I am working outside like this I keep going in every so often to see that Rosemary was O.K. After that, and this afternoon I started rubbing the shading off the greenhouses. It was more difficult than usual and I had to rub hard so I didn't have time to finish them. Heather arrived at 3.00 for the weekend .I did my walk round Blackleach at 4.00.

After the service at church this morning a lady said to me " Your flowers give a lot of pleasure to a lot of people". People thinking this makes me feel that it is all worthwhile. The basket of veg that I did is going, as it is,to a food bank but I will get the basket back after. This afternoon I took the opportunity to go on the allotment. I can only go if either Martyn or Heather are here to see to Rosemary and I hadn't been for a week. They were both here today and they took Rosemary a walk in her wheelchair. Heather went home this evening and can't come again for at least a week. On the allotment I tied up some spray chrysanths that needed doing. I had noticed before that some were wrongly labelled so I made them right. Just over half of the brassica bed still had cabbages and a few kohl rabi in. I had left the other part empty for winter crops and I have some winter cabbages and broccoli ready for planting. It needed weeding first though, so I spent the rest of the time doing that.

Rosemary had a hospital appointment with a physiotherapist but Martyn took her,so I went on the allotment and finished weeding the brassica bed where I want to plant the winter cabbages and broccoli. There is another part where I intend planting winter onions but this still needs weeding.

This morning I started rubbing the shading from the greenhouse roofs. I had got it from the sides last Saturday. It was raining this afternoon so I couldn't finish it. Even when on my stepladder I can't reach the top of the greenhouses. I told you on Saturday that it was more difficult than usual. This must be because I am using a different shading material. To remove it where I can't reach I used to tie a towel onto the head of a sweeping brush but I don't think I can do this now with having to rub hard to get it off. This afternoon I just went in the greenhouse for a bit and tidied up some of the plants.

It has been raining nearly all day,so I haven't been out apart from opening and closing the greenhouse doors and I went a short errand this afternoon. So I decided to carry on with my writing. When I am writing veg articles and I mention varieties I like to tell people which suppliers sell these varieties. So I go through all the catalogues and list all the varieties in each one and that is what I have been doing most of the day and I am going to continue with it now.
