Today I have picked all the apples and pears off my trees .I have only one apple tree and one pear tree but it took me nearly all day .Afterwards I side shooted the chrysanths and side shooted and disbudded the dahlias. This evening I went to the allotment to water but I brought home some more runner beans and the first cabbage. Apples picked today

I couldn't go to the hut this morning as I usually do on Saturdays because neither Martyn or Heather could be here to see to Rosemary and she can't be left for long. I forgot to mention last Thursday that I couldn't go to Blackleach for the same reason. Both Martyn and Heather are very good though. We rely on them a lot but they can't be here all the time. I did leave her for 15 minutes, though. I went to the hut for some maxicrop but told them that I couldn't stay. When I am at home, working in the garden, I keep going in to see if she wants anything. I told you a week or two ago about covering my chrysanth bed with a sheet of polythene on a wooden framework and showed you a picture. The chrysanth bed is only half the size it used to be. When I gave up half of my allotment a few years ago I lost my dahlia bed so I now grow dahlias on the back half of what used to be the chrysanth bed. The wooden structure still went right to the back of the bad over the dahlias but I don't cover those. I only cover the front half where the chrysanths are. This wooden structure over the dahlias gets in the way a bit. It was difficult to get round the back to see to the back row of dahlias. So,now that I don't need it any more I have been dismantling it today but didn't quite finish it. I will take all the wood to the re-cycling centre.

It was raining this morning and showery the rest of the day. I took some more wood off the frame over the dahlias. In the greenhouse I got rid of some plants I no longer wanted to make more room. I have about eight chrysanths in nine inch pots coming into flower so I put these in the greenhouse. Heather only went home last Wednesday and she came again this afternoon and is staying another week.

I forgot to mention yesterday that we went for our covid boosters. Today I can't lift my arm up ,it is so painful .So there was not much chance of doing gardening jobs. I hope it will be O.K.tomorrow. I went on my walk round Blackleach then went in the greenhouse for a bit and tidied up the tomato plants by removing dead leaves .That was all I felt like doing.

My arm is much better so I was able to carry on doing more jobs. This morning I went to the re-cycling centre with all the wood that I had taken off the frame over the dahlia bed and other things I didn't want. I have one more show to go to next Saturday. It is at Edenfield where I went on August 13th. When I got home this morning I started making some preparations for it by removing all the bags from the chrysanths to see which may be ready. Because there are no more shows I didn't need to put them back. This afternoon I went to the R.H.S. garden Bridgewater to see the North West Counties chrysanth show, but when I got there I was told that it had been cancelled because of the Queen's funeral yesterday as they couldn't set up the show. So I had a quick walk round then came home. I then decided to go to the allotment and make a start collecting vegetables for the show. I picked runner beans and some sweet corn, marrows and squashes. This evening I have washed the marrows and squashes, removed some husk from the sweet corn to see what the kernals were like .Then sorted the runner beans and picked out the most likely ones for showing and put them in a wet towel.

This morning I went to the allotment for some more veg for Edenfield show. Got a cabbage, rhubarb, courgettes and a few more turnips. At home this afternoon I removed the parsnips from the tubes and washed them and picked some tomatoes. Sorted all the veg into sets for showing.

It was nice for our wellbeing walk at Blackleach this morning but is started raining early afternoon and it has rained all day since. I cut some perennials from my border there for Edenfield show. Glad I got them cut them before the rain started. Gina from school phoned me yesterday to tell me that Garden Club was starting again this afternoon. I was going to go after Blackleach at 3.00 but I didn't see any point in going in the rain so I came home.

Been cutting flowers for Edenfield show most of the day, from the allotment this morning, then from my garden this afternoon. This evening I have loaded up the car ready for an early start in the morning. Flowers cut for Edenfield show. How am I going to get them all in the car?

Edenfield show today, I put in 54 entries and got 25 firsts, 7 seconds and 5 thirds and won 2 trophies. I think this is the highest number of firsts I have ever had. I was the only person who had any chrysanths in. Will show you some pictures tomorrow

I couldn't go to church this morning as I normally do because neither Martyn or Heather could be here to see to Rosemary. Heather had been here for a week but she went home yesterday evening and Martyn was away. He returned from holiday this afternoon. We wanted to watch the service on U tube but we couldn't find it. When I am at church and either Martyn or Heather are here they find it for Rosemary to watch. So I went out and did my watering . I also had to empty the car after yesterdays show. Didn't have time last night. Put all the plants back into the greenhouse and put away the bags of florists foam and buckets that I had been using. This afternoon I went to the allotment just to water because I hadn't done it for a few days. Then did some tidying up in the garden. The tubes in which I grow parsnips and long carrots are made from sheets of builder's damp proof material . They are rolled up to form tubes and stapled .Today , now that they have all been emptied I removed the staples and rolled them up in bundles and tied them up and put them away behind the shed till next year. They roll up together better with the staples out. Going to show you some pictures of some of my exhibits yesterday now These are parsnips grown in the tubes
