Went to the allotment this afternoon.I topped up the potato tubs with old compost like I did with those at home. I then raked fish, blood and bone into the bed I had just weeded and started putting in the canes for climbing French beans .However, I got rained off about 3.00 so had to come home. Went in the greenhouse for a bit. Planted some achmenes from a tray into 5 inch pots,4 or 5 in each.Sowed some more lettuce, kohl rabi and beetroot in cell trays. It was fine this evening so I went to the allotment again and put in some more canes but after half an hour, rain stopped play again so I came home. It didn't rain long though so I could have stayed. When I got home I planted the antirrhinums in front of the dahlias. I also tied up the back two rows of chrysanths.

Today, I have planted the rest of the border between the back lawn and the fence. I have put in stocks, calendulas, salvia "Victoria" and pansies. I them cleared the border on the other side of the lawn, along the path.It still had trays of plants on it.I weeded it but there weren't many weeds. Went on the allotment this evening.I made two structures of canes for runner beans, climbing French beans, peas and sweet peas. The just need some diagonal canes on them to strengthen the structures. I told you before that I wasn't growing any sweeet peas but I have decided to grow some on one of these structures.

It has been drizzly on and off all day. I raked fish, blood and bone into the border I had cleared and got it ready for planting this morning.I can't remember if I have told you but a lady called Cindy comes on Tuesday afternoons to look after Rosemary and do things with her for two hours then I can go out.It was fine at the time so I decided to go to the re-cycling centre with weeds from the allotment. So I went to the allotment to pick them up and take them. There were 11 bags. It was drizzling a bit when I got home so I went in the greenhouse and did some tidying up of the plants.I also potted the rest of the achimenes into 5 inch pots.It was fine this evening but I didn't risk going to the allotment so I did some planting on the border. I had some nice plants of Lobelia "Queen Vivtoria" which I had overwintered in 5 inch pots.I split them up to make more plants and planted them along the back of the border. In front of them I planted a row of zinnias.

I was drizzly off and on this afternoon but dry this evening. So I went to the allotment this evening and planted some runner beans "Mergoles" and climbing French beans "Rob Roy" on the structures of canes that I had made.Put some diagonal strengthening canes on one of the structures.

I went on the allotment in the evening and planted some sweet peas on the frameworks of canes Not done much today because it was drizzling this morning and it rained harder this afternoon.Just went in the greenhouse for a bit and potted on some plants into bigger pots that needed doing.

This morning I went to the hut for some tomato food for school.I called at the allotment on the way home and tied up the sweet peas that I planted on Thursday. This afternoon I went to Blackleach to record the wild flowers and birds with Janet who I have told you about before. When I got home I did a lot of tidying up in the garden, putting away a lot of pots and boxes from which plants had been planted. Went on the allotment this evening and planted 14 sweet corn and 8 squashes on the same bed as the beans I planted on Wednesday and the sweet peas on Thursday. On the structures of canes on which the beans and sweet peas are planted, the vertical canes on which the plants are growing need tying to the horizontal canes along the top.I did about half of them this evening.

Put in some single asters"lazy daisy",rudbeckia "marmalade",statice and gazanias. I hadn't much time this evening but I went to the allotment and finished tying the vertical canes to the horizontal ones on the bean and sweet pea structures.

It rained most of the morning but the rest of the day has been fine. Because I am not growing as many sweet peas, I had a lot left.I have given some away on the allotments but still had about 30 left.I eptied the pots into a sack under the car port while it was raining and also several other pots and cell trays containing plants I no longer needed. They will go on my compost heap on the allotment. This afternoon I weded the border round the front lawn. There were a lot of small weeds coming up between the plants which were difficult to get at. Went to the allotment this evening. I had pulled up a lot of tall thistles before but there were a lot growing in my compost bays.I pulled up all those and some more from the beds. They filled my wheelbarrow to overflowing three times and they are now in the back of my car ready to go to the re-cycling centre tomorrow. It is too difficult to get them into sacks so I have put them in the car without sacks.

Between the front lawn and the rose bed there is a brick path.I made a neat edge to the lawn along the bricks. I do this with an pld knife that I keep for the job. I put another tie on the antirrhinums and tied up the marigolds "Tall Scotch prize" to keep them upright. While Cindy was looking after Rosemary this afternoon I went to the re-cycling centre with all the thistles that I told you about yesterday and then went to the allotment.I put the final diagonal canes on the structures. Went to the allotment again this evening and started weeding the rest of the root crop bed. There is already a row of turnips in this bed. Brought home the over wintered onions.

This morning I made neat edges to the back lawn against the terrace and the path as I did to the front lawn yesterday.I then started tidying and sweeping the terrace at the back then I can put my containers in position. Went to the allotment this evening and as soon as I arrived it startrd raining and there was a big black cloud. I didn't know whether to go straight home but I sat in the car for a few minutes and it soon blew over so I was able to carry on a bit with the weeding.

The weather didn't look promising this evening so I didn't risk going to the allotment. It didn't rain though so I could have gone.I decided to start tying the chrysanth labels on top of the canes and I finished the first bed and did some disbudding as I went along. This job should, of course, have been done weeks ago but it is a job Rosemary used to do for me but she can't any more and I always have had more urgent jobs to do. Car full of thistles taken to the re-cycling centre on Tuesday

A nice day today so I had a good day in the garden and the allotment this evening. I fed the tomatoes, cucumbers, hanging baskets and other containers with tomato maxicrop. I finished tidying the terrace in the back garden under the kitchen window and swept it again.Put the containers in position on it and table and two chairs. The table dismantles and is kept in the shed and so do the chairs over winter. I tied the rest of the chrysanth labels to the top of the canes and did more disbudding. On the allotment I had pulled up the large weeds from half of the root crop bed and this evening I have forked it all over and hand weeded it, raked in some fish, blood and bone so it is ready for sowing or planting.

Just a few showers today but I have been in the garden most of the time. I went to the hut first because I need some more fish, blood and bone. I have tied up all the dahlias and tied all the labels onto the canes. You know that I have tidied the terrace but there was a place against the wall where I thought could do with a nice plant.I have nice begonia full of flower so I put that there but I first potted it on into a 8 inch pot and staked it. This evening we have had a thunder storm and it is still raining so I haven't been able to go to the allotment. So,I am watching Wimbledon instead. I used to play a lot of tennis in my youth(a long time ago).

I decided to put three more begonias on the terrace this afternoon.Went on the allotment after and again this evening.I have planted some kohl rabi and beetroot from cell trays.I then sowed another row of each direct in the bed and also some more turnips. Spent the rest of the time pulling up large weeds from the beds. My recycling bin is full of them and those of two of my neighbours. It has been dry today but it started raining as I was coming off the allotment at 9.30

Alongside the path up the back garden there is a large rhododendron and some holly. Both were growing out over the path making it difficult to walk along so I cut some growth off them to make it easier. I then did some tidying up on the terrcace in front of the form. There was a lot of lady's mantle (alchemilla mollis)growing on there. It is all along the front of the rockery as well.I do like it but I think one clump is enough on this terrace so I cut the rest down. I then did some weeding on the back rose beds. Heather arrived this afternoon but she can only stay till tomorrow evening. Went on the allotment this evening.Started weeding a strip about a metre wide at the back of the brassica bed where I intend planting my Christmas dinner (Brussel sprouts). It is full of weeds and I started by digging out the tallest ones and I filled about 4 sacks with them.I also tied up the spray chrysanths.
