Thanks, Grindle. Not much gardening time today. We went a walk this afternoon and then I did some more disbudding and side shooting of the chrysanths. Went to the allotment this evening. Noticed some more blight on the potatoes so I cut them all down including those in tubs. Put collars on four more leeks. They are all done now.Did some weeding on the onion bed.

Forgot to mention yesterday that I brought a lot more onions home from the allotment that I had missed before. This morning I sat under the car port and dressed them all up and put them in the shed with the others.I rubbed them all with talcum powder because it helps to ripen them and give them a nice light brown colour which judges like. We went a walk this afternoon and then I weeded the border between the front lawn and the path. Not many weeds, just some small ones growing between the other plants. Went to the allotment this evening and carried on weeding the onion bed. I brought home the shallots whih were growing along the front of the bed. I still have a lot of annual flowers not planted so I intend to plant some on this bed that I am weeding because it will take me longer to weed the beds where I normally grow annual flowers. This is the border I have been weeding this afternoon

I had an hour or so on the allotment this morning just carrying on weeding the onion bed and almost finished it. This afternoon I have tied up all the dahlias again.I also reduced some of the stems on the large flowered varieties. It is raining this evening so I have not been able to go to the allotment and this is why I am on the forum so early.

It rained a bit early morning but it was fine for our walk at Blackleach. There are no more garden clubs at school till September but on my way home from Blackleach at 3.00 I still went to school to feed the tomatoes .Some of them wanted tying up so I did that.Noticed that the potatoes were showing signs of blight so I cut them all down just like I have done on my allotment. Went to the allotment this evening and finished weeding the onion bed so I can put some flowers in now.

This morning I fed the tomatoes, cucumbers, hanging baskets, tubs and some pot plants with tomato maxicrop. We went a walk this afternoon but we went late because we had an opticians appointment first,so there wasn't time to do anything after. I didn't risk going to the allotment this evening because it looked like rain so I have had a night in.

Had an hour on the allotment this morning and been again this evening. I have tied up and disbudded the dahlias and reduced the sweet pea stems to one per plant and secured it to the cane(don't forget they were planted late).Pulled a lot of large weeds up where I had sown dwarf French beans. I then raked some fish, blood and bone on what was the onion bed where I intend planting some annual flowers. This afternoon I went for my walk round Blackleach and then mowed the lawns.

Martyn took us to Chorley show this afternoon which is one I haven't been to before and we pushed Rosemary round in her wheelchair. The National Vegetable Society had a stand in the marquee and they were selling my books.I signed them all because they sell better when they have been signed by a famous author (only joking). It stayed fine while we were at the show but it is raining this evening so I have to have another night in. The N.V.S.stand at Chorley show

It has rained nearly all day today, hard at times this afternoon and evening. The only gardening job I have done was sitting under the car port dressing the shallots .Cut the tops down, cut off the roots and peeled off the loose skins to leave an unbroken one and it did take a long time.I washed them after and left them to dry

It has been dry today. I think I have told you before that a lady called Cindy comes on Tuesday afternoons till 3.30 to look after Rosemary while I go out so I took the opportunity to go on the allotment and I have been again this evening. So I was in the garden this morning and this afternoon when I got home. At home I cut the lawn edges because I didn't get time when I mowed on Saturday.I did some tying up, mainly antirrhinums ,and weeded the front rose bed and part of the border round the back lawn where I had planted pansies which was full of chickweed. On the allotment I have been planting annual flowers on the bed I have just weeded which was the onion bed but I didn't quite finish it. I put in some Tithonia, cosmos , rudbeckia "Indian summer" and dwarf delphiniums. These are perennial but I treat them as annuals.

It is our sixty fifth wedding anniversary today but the weather wasn't fit for us to go out anywhere. It has been drizzling most of the time.I have been in the greenhouse and started taking fuchsia cuttings, about 4 of each variety and I did 6 varieties.A lot more to do yet. It did stop drizzling this evening but I didn't risk going to the allotment.I just went out a bit and did some side shooting on the chrysanths. Heather has just arrived, 10.15. She said it would be late because she has been working.

It has been dry today. On my way home from Blackleach at 3.00 I called at school, mainly to feed the tomatoes but some of them needed tying up and some needed surplus shoots removing.I cut the tops off some that had reached the top of the polytunnel. I also thinned some rows of beetroot and carrot seedlings. It would have been better if the children could do it but it couldn't wait till September. Went on the allotment this evening and finished planting flowers in the bed where the onions had been.I put in some nicotiana "evening fragrance" and marigolds "tall Scotch prize". I also staked and tied the broad beans.

Dry again today. This morning I fed the tomatoes, cucumbers, baskets and tubs again. Yesterday ,the window box outside the kitchen window fell off the wall so fixing it back up was my next job which wasn't easy.I had to drill fresh holes in the wall and they had to be exactly the right distance apart and I had to have two attempts before I got it right. It is not long since I weeded the rose beds in the back garden and the chrysanth beds but there are tiny weeds coming up again so I decided to treat them with weedol and I used four tubes of it. Went on the allotment this evening. The onions that I grew from seed are in a different bed than those I grew from sets and which I harvested recently. I decided to wed this bed (it isn't as big a bed as the other one).I am not harvesting these yet because I want them to grow bigger so I gave them a feed of nitro chalk. My window box bach on the wall

It has rained most of the day so I have been in the greenhouse taking more fuchsia cuttings and I have probably got enough now. I will just have to check if there are any varieties that I haven't taken.
