Not done much gardening today on my birthday. As you probably know, I am usually at Blackleach till 3.00 on Thursdays, the wellbeing walk in the morning and the art club in the afternoon.Martyn, my son, comes to our house to look after Rosemary then I can go to Blackleach because she can't be left on her own for long. He has gone on holiday today to Portugal so I couldn't stay there till 3.00 .I did go on the walk this morning because Rosemary's hairdresser came so she was not on her own all morning. I had to come home at 12.00 and make our lunch then be back at Blackleach at 1.00 to open up for the art club. I came straight home then took Rosemary a walk at a place we often go to which is near Blackleach. We went to Blackleach just before 3.00 then I could lock the visitor centre up when the art club people had gone. Just been in the garden for a bit this evening doing some dead heading and tying up a few more dahlias.

This morning ,after watering which I do every morning, I took some coleus cuttings. I then went to school.Garden club started again yesterday but I couldn't go so I went this morning to feed the tomatoes.I also picked a tray full and left them near the school door then the staff could take them home.I went to the allotment after and cut some more dahlias to put in the house and some for someone else. I also did some dead heading and disbudding of the dahlias.Rosemary had a dental appointment this afternoon at 3.45 but we had time to go for a walk first. This evening I have weeded the rose bed in the front garden. My daughter Heather from Wales has arrived this evening for the weekend

Because Heather is here I was able to go to the allotment this morning and afternoon. Forked over the potato bed again twice to get any potatoes I had missed before and I filled a supermarket tray with them and weeded the bed as I went along. The only other thing I did was to stake and tie a few more gladioli.

Went on the allotment again this afternoon.Started weeding the root crop bed again which was rather overgrown.I had weeded it only 2 or 3 months ago and sowed some turnips and beetroot but the weeds have outgrown them.I started by pulling out large weeds that were easy to pull up without forking them out including sow thistle, redleg and shaggy soldier.I filled four sacks with these. There were some decent beetroot among the weeds but no sign of the turnips. Started doing some hand weeding after. Cut some dahlias for Heather to give to a friend. She went home this eveing. She also took some statice for drying and some potatoes and onions.

When it stopped raining this afternoon I weeded the border round the front lawn.Dead headed the marigolds along the front wall.

Thank you very much Lesley.I hope to win some more prizes on Saturday when I am showing at Edenfield, which like Tottington is at the other side of Bury from where I live. The weather forecast isn't good for getting my exhibits ready. It has rained all day today.Early evening ,it stopped briefly and the sun came out and I thought of going out but it soon started again so I have been in all day.I hope soon to be ordering my seeds for next year so this morning I made a list of all the seeds I had left from this year and also all the free ones that have come in Garden News then I can see which seeds I still need. This afternoon and evening I have just carried on with my writing.

Today I begun making preparations for Edenfield show on Saturday. You may think it is early to prepare for a Saturday show on Wednesday but as you know I am at Blackleach and school on Thursdays and I can't leave everything till Friday. It was showery this morning but I took a risk and went to the allotment for some veg.It rained hard while I was there so I sat in my car till it slackened.I have two varieries of runner beans on different structures of canes and they had both partly blown over so I had difficulty getting at the beans to pick them but I managed to get enough of each variety.I also brought home the beetroot and four sweet corn.It was dry this afternoon and I have taken all the parsnips from the tubes in which they were growing .I then washed them and the beetroot in a bucket. I then removed all the bags from the chrysanths to see which will be ready for the show. This evening I have cut all those that were ready and put them under the car port. Chrysanths keep longer than most other flowere so they will be O.K.for Saturday.I will leave the dahlias and other flowers till Friday. This evening I have sorted out the beans and got two sets of six for showing and also sorted sets of parsnips and beetroot Chrysanths cut for Edenfield show

Not done any gardening jobs today .Went round Blackleach with Janet this afternoon.I told you yesterday that I would show you pictures of my winning exhibits at Edenfield but I am having difficulty putting them on my computer. The screen isn't doing what it normally does.It usually goes quickly through over 900 pictures than the ones that I want come on the screen but it isn't doing that.I think they will have to wait till Martyn cane come and sort the problem out.

Went to the allotment this morning. I forgot to mention this before but there was an elder tree growing on my rhubarb bed next to my shed.It was getting too big so I cut it down last week .I intent taking it to the re-cycling centre tomorrow but some of the branches were too big to go in the car so I cut them all down into smaller lengths.Spent the rest of the time just pulling up large weeds that were easy to pull up without digging them out. I now have eight large sacks of weeds so I will take as many of these that will fit in the car as well as the tree branches. We went a walk this afternoon and when we got back I mowed the lawns. It has not rained for two days so I thought I had better get them done because they hadn't been done for two weeks because it was been too wet.
