Went to the allotment this morning and carried on with weeding the root crop bed. Took Rosemary for a walk this afternoon.I take her somewhere in the car then take her a walk in her wheelchair. On the way home I went to the post office to post all the bird record sheets from Blackleach Country Park for 2023 to the County bird recorder,24 sheets altogether.I photocopy them first and keep a copy of them at Blackleach.

Very cold today with a strong wind but I braved it and went to the allotment this morning and this afternoon. I finished weeding what was the root crop bed .I had weeded most of the potato bed before but there was a strip at the far end not done so I started doing that.Where I have been weeding on the root crop bed there was still a row of beetroot. They weren't very big ,some were only the size of a golf ball ,but they won't have grown any more at this time of year so I brought them home. I have washed them this evening and I will boil them tomorrow and put some on my sandwiches.

Couldn't go anywhere today because we had to wait in for a nurse to come to see Rosemary and we didn't know what time she was coming but she didn't come at all. Heather had been given a kit to grow bonsai. It contained some pots, compost and some seeds and growing instructions. She wanted me to grow them so I sowed some seeds in one of the pots. So,this is the only gardening job I have done today. I have just made my sandwiches using the beetroot that I brought home yesterday to take to Blackleach tomorrow for my lunch.

I told you in December that when cleaning out my propagating greenhouse I remove the grit from the trays on the staging. I took the bags of grit to Blackleach today and on my way home this afternoon I called at our horticultural society supply hut and spread it on the car park because it often gets muddy.Didn't have time to do anything else when I got home.At Blackleach I made some new wild flower charts and put them up on the wall.It took nearly all afternoon.

Went in the garden for a bit this morning and this afternoon. I forked over and weeded the border between the back lawn and the fence.Put 2 bags of old compost on and raked it level. Did a bit more tidying up of the path near the greenhouses.

Went to the allotment this afternoon .I finished weeding the bed I was doing yesterday. There is a path going across my plot which separates the four veg beds from the flower beds. The right hand side of the allotment up to this path which includes veg beds 1 and 2 is now all weeded. Martyn had got me a weed membrane so I put it down over this area.I have never used one before. It is 10 metres by 4 metres and just covers this area. I then just started weeding veg bed 4 wich is on the other side of the allotment.

Much colder today and the ground is frozen so it wouldn't have been any use going to the allotment. So I decided to wash some more seed trays in the wheelbarrow under the carport and I nearly finished them.I stood them up along the wall to dry and this afternoon I had to sort them into the different types and pile them up and take them to the greenhouse.Put a few to one side that need repairing.

It snowed overnight and carried on till mid morning, about an inch and a half of snow altogether so I couldn't do anything outside. I decided to sow my exhibition onions.Sowed thirty seeds in a half tray. The seeds are large enough to space out so I sowed 5 rows of 6 seeds.Rather than put the tray in the greenhouse I decided to put a small propagator in my utility room next to the kitchen to put them on. I also repaired a few seed trays that I had put to one side yesterday. I just bind duck tape round them.

It didn't snow today but yesterday's snow was still on the ground. I have only got plants in one greenhouse at present as you know .I haven't watered them for about a week because the weather has been too cold to leave the door open.I never water my plants and leave the door closed.I decided to water them this morning .It was still cold outside but the greenhouse temperature was 10 degrees and the sun was out so I left the door open. When I had finished, the temperature had dropped to 7 .I didn't look again till 2.30 this afternoon. The sun had gone behind the trees and the temperature was only one and the fan heater had come on so I closed the door. I then washed all my margerine containers(about 80) and ice cream containers ( about 18) in the kitchen sink ready for use.I use the margerine containers for sowing seeds when there are only a few and for small cuttings like fuchsias and the ice cream ones for larger cuttings, maimly dahlias.

The last few days have been cold but it is colder still this morning. Jo Bennet who is in charge of the Wellbeing walks in Salford phoned me yesterday telling me to cancel the walk at Blackleach this morning. I just had to go at 10.00 to tell the people who turned up (only about 10).When I got home I took all the containers that I washed yesterday up to the greenhouse .I had to go back to Blackleach at 1.00 to open up for the art class .I stayed till 3.00 to lock up when they had finished. While they were in, I wrote most of my next article for Garden News. I am going to finish it this evening after watching Winterwatch.

This morning and this afternoon I have been washing small Ambrosia custard pots and yoghurt pots in the kitchen sink. I have about 300 of them and I use them for the first potting of small rooted cuttings and the first potting of seedlings like tomatoes and sevaral other things.

Not as cold and it has rained on and off all day and getting rid of the snow. This morning I put away all the pots I washed yesterday.I had to wash the bucket that they had been in and put the pots back in it.When I washed the seed trays there were a few that I didn't have time for so I have done these this afternoon in my wheelbarrow.I also washed five boxes to box up my dahlia tubers.I don't intend boxing them till next month because there is no heat in my propagating greenhouse.

It rained on and off all day and I haven't had chance to do any gardening jobs.I wanted to do the bird count at Blackleach either yesterday or today but it hadn't been fit either day.
