Well, our holiday in Whitby is nearly over. We have to be out of this house by 10.00 in the morning. Depending on the weather, though, we may not go home right away. If the weather is nice we may stay in Whitby till the afternoon , or we may go somewhere else on the way home. The rest of the family have to go straight home though because Alex and Kelly(his girlfriend)have to work tomorrow evening and they have to travel home to Wales twice as far as us. Alex is a chef in a restaurant in a country house and Kelly is a waitress. She is still at college but works with Alex part time. The weather here has mostly been lovely. It has rained three times but has only lasted about 15 minutes each time. No sooner had we put our macks on and we soon took them off again. Today we haven't had the scorching weather that they had down South ,in fact it has been a bit cool. We like Whitby very much but we won't be coming again. Rosemary can't walk as well as me and there is too much climbing for her. The houses , shops and hotels are a lot higher than the promenade and harbour where all the attractions are so unless she just wanted to go shopping we had to go down then climb back up again. anyway, we have enjoyed it all the same

We decided to stay in Whitby till about 2.00 . Arrived home at 5.30. It poured down on the way home. Surprising how the garden has changed in a week. I mowed the lawn then went through the chrysanths seeing if any more needed disbudding and removing side shoots. The lavatera "silver cup" in the front garden is lovely but it needed tying up so I did that and a few other things as well. Put all my photos on the computer ,43 altogether but reduced them to 26. I will show you some of them tomorrow as it is a bit late now

This afternoon I went to my son Martyns to cut his hedges which had got rather bad and it isn't long since I did them before. Went on the allotment this evening. Put more ties on the peas and sweet peas and fed the tomatoes. Some allotments have got blight on the potatoes . I haven't yet but I decided to cut down the haulms to be on the safe side but didn't get time to do them all. Brought home three large cauliflowers (will have to give two away to neighbours), some nice peas and the first runner beans. I don't think I have had runner beans so early before. I am going to show you the borders in my front garden now. You will be able to see the lavatera silver cup I told you about yesterday but there is a white one in the middle.
