Thanks,Tel I have only had a bit of time this evening for gardening jobs. Just had time to mow the lawns and pot 20odd winter cabbages and broccoli from 3 inch pot to 5 inch. Martyn , my son, has given me some money for my birthday so I am going to use it to order some more roses.

Been at Blackleach today . I decided to take the compost from my potato bags and put it on the nursery beds where I sow wild flowers. These beds were getting a bit low and could do with building up. Billy has been weeding them so perhaps he has removed too much soil with the weeds. I will probably take more old compost next time I go. This evening I have been to the mini show of Salford and Bolton fuchsia society. I think I told you at the time that at the A.G.M.in April we were all given two small cuttings ,one a single and one a double to grow on and bring them back to this show. One of mine, the single , called Charlotte soon lost all its leaves and looked as if it was dying . Now there is just one shoot about 4 inches tall growing. The other plant, a double called Clive Potter, did grow and has made a decent plant but has no flowers on so I didn't take either plant. Nevertheless there were some very good plants there. There is no judge ,the winners being decided by voting. We had pastie and peas after.

A full days gardening except for shopping this afternoon till about 3.00. I have been to church and put more roundup on weeds on the paths and right round the edge of the car park . Fed the tomatoes at school and on the allotment. While at school I removed a lot of dead leaves from the plants. At home I have cut down the chrysanths that had finished. On the allotment I have done more disbudding and tying up of the dahlias and done some more weeding/

Rosemary needed the car this morning but I walked down to the allotment. It's alright doing this while the weather is settled as it is now and no rain forecast. It only takes about 5 minutes to walk down. I can't carry all my tools of course but this morning I only wanted to do some hand weeding so I only needed my hand fork and my flask of coffee of course. This afternoon she wanted the car till about 3.00 but I didn't walk down because I wanted to go in the car later to start collecting the veg for Saturdays show at Edenfield. As with the last two weeks I have not much time on the Thursday which is why I wanted to start on the Wednesday. Tomorrow morning I have got the health walk and choir practice at night and she needs the car part of the afternoon. While I was waiting for her to come home today I did some weeding on the chrysanths beds. I then went to the allotment for the veg. The dwarf French beans and runner beans are both past their best and going to seed so I can't show those. The climbing French beans (Rob Roy ) are doing very well so I will show some of these. Also got some courgettes , rhubarb, beetroot , marrows and turnips.

Just this afternoon for doing any gardening jobs. I went to school and the allotment for tomatoes for Edenfield show and sorted out which I needed when I got home. Took the parsnips out of the tubes made from builders damp proof to see if any were fit for showing. Some of them had forked but I picked three out of the rest for the show. The seed catalogues for 2015 have started to arrive. Suttons, Robinsons and Fothergills have arrived in the last few days. I have some vouchures to spend from Robinsons and Suttons so I made the orders out. I had a £9 vouchure from Robinsons that I won for the most points in veg at our show and £11 from Fothergills for Top Vase entries at our show and Whitefield.

There were a lot of entries at Edenfield show particularly in the veg and dahlias so I didn't think I would do very well. There were three good dahlia growers and I was up against Tony Bracegirdle in the roses. Anyway I did better than I thought. I got 19 firsts, 17 seconds and 13 thirds. Only got 2 firsts in veg, one with a butternut squash and the other with turnips. The same small onions that had won firsts at the last three shows won nothing today. Got three firsts in dahlias. There were 5 entries in the giant decs and I got first, second and third. Also won first with Taratahi Ruby and a vase for effect . There were 6 entries in this class. Most of the other firsts were in the general flower classes. Haven't time to show you any pictures now but hope to do so tomorrow

Been on the allotment this afternoon. Finished weeding the bed I was doing last week. The gladioli have all finished so I removed the canes and dug up the plants. I give the corms to somebody else on the allotments because I prefer to buy fresh each year. This is the next bed that needs weeding. It will be easier now I have removed the plants but it will have to wait another week because I am at Blackleach all day tomorrow then on Tuesday we are going to Wales for the rest of the week. I am now going to tell you a bit more about the show yesterday and show you a few pictures. I won 4 trophies 1)most points in gladioli 2)there were 3 classes for mixed garden flowers ,one for perennials, one for annuals and one for a vase for effect ,and a trophy for most points in these classes and I won all three.3)most points in general flowers and 4) most points in all the flower classes. There were 3 classes for gladioli,3 spikes, two spikes and one spike. There was only me in the first two I've mentioned and in the class for one spike I put two in and there was one more which got third. This is the only spike besides mine that has been in the gladioli classes in the shows where I have been showing all season.
