Not much gardening time today. Been at Blackleach this morning and the only gardening I did was to put weedol on part of the border where I had weeded before but tiny weeds were coming up again . After shopping this afternoon I had to go to Country Baskets for another box of oasis. I have two more shows yet and I hadn't enough for both. Went on the allotment this evening. When I dug the potatoes up I weeded the plot but there are thousands of tiny weeds coming up again so I put weedol on here as well. I then cut some flowers for Val that I told you about yesterday and Rosemary wanted some lettuce and beans.

I am showing at Tottington on Saturday . I told you last week that I like to sort my veg out on the Thursday before a show then cut the flowers on Friday, However I have not much time tomorrow so I started today. I went to the allotment for most of the veg and sorted it out and will have to go for the rest tomorrow in what little time I have. I have also taken the flowers and plants that I told you about to Vals church. Some shows , like the one at Whitefield last week have staging on Friday evening as well as Saturday so I took my flowers on Friday and staged what I had time for and took the pot plants and veg on Saturday. At Tottington this Saturday and Edenfield next Saturday there is only staging on Saturday so I can only make one journey. For these shows I have a large box that goes on top of the car. All the veg goes in the box and the flowers and pot plants inside the car. This box is dismantled when not in use and is kept in our disused coal shed. I got it out this evening and fixed it up ready for Saturday. It doesn't need dismantling between shows . It just stands in what I call the utility area in the garden.

I have been rather annoyed. I had almost finished typing the above post when my computer started logging off to do some updates and I lost it all so I have had to type it all out again. Why couldn't it wait till I had finished or give me some warning?

You know that we have health walks every Thursday morning at Blackleach country park. We normally just walk round the park for an hour but about three times a year we book a coach and go somewhere else to do the walk which is what we have done today. We have been to Dunham Massey in Cheshire .We took our lunch and had a picnic and then went on another walk after. It was a lovely day and we enjoyed it very much. Arrived home at 3.00 . I then went on the allotment for the rest of the veg for Saturdays show and finished sorting it out after the choir practice. I have made up a basket as I did for last weeks show but for this show it says "A shopping basket" so I couldn't use the same basket as I did last week. I will spend all tomorrow cutting and sorting out flowers.

As I said yesterday I have been cutting and sorting flowers today for Tottington show. I want to be there at 8.30 tomorrow so the car is loaded up ready. The box is on top of the car with the veg in and the flowers and pot plants are in the car. I will have to set the alarm for morning.

Another successful show at Tottington. Put 65 entries in and got 26 firsts, 22 seconds and 9 thirds. Won five trophies 1)Most first prizes in show 2)Most firsts in veg (11),3)most points in dahlias 4),best spike of gladioli, 5)best exhibit in roses. Also got the gladioli silver and bronze medals. For the third show running there was only me in the gladioli classes but they have done well. Ian didn't come but there were three other good dahlia growers. Only got two firsts in dahlias-won with Don Hill again and a mixed vase for effect, but still won most points/ Came second with Elma E, White Charlie two, Ruskin Andrea, L'ancresse and Willos violet. Won all the rose classes. Tony Bracegirdle, who I think is probably the best rose grower in the country, sometimes shows here but he didn't come today which is why I won.! In veg I won with onions, potatoes, marrow, courgettes, runner and broad beans, swedes, the heaviest potato and a collection of four but there was only me in that class. I will show you a few pictures now
