Hope you're feeling better soon Derek, you need to wrap up well even if you're only going to the greenhouse as it's still chilly walking across the garden.

Thanks for all those comments. Our church isn't cold,by the way. I did feel a bit better today so I have been on the allotment. I just had the onion bed to dig and manure. Rain is supposed to be coming on Wednesday and I have not as much time tomorrow so I wanted to get it done today. There was a bit too much manure on the bed so I wheeled a barrow round to school first. So all the manuring is done now ,thank goodness.I still have some weeding on the allotment to do but most of my work in the next few weeks will be in the greenhouses.

Hope you feel better soon Derek, you do feel low when you have a cold. You should invest in some hand warmers Cherry, you click a metal button in them and they turn from liquid to like ice crystals... but warm ;D I love my one's ;D ;D I didn't know you could still get those I've been looking Rosie but haven't found any were did you get yours from Well, technically i got mine from Santa in my christmas stocking ;D ;D but i know Sara got them from Superdrug, you can get them on e bay too... www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=re%20usable%20hand%20warmers&_fscr=1

Just had 2 hours spare this afternoon so I thought I had better make use of this nice weather and go to the allotment . I have 2 small herbaceous borders on the allotment ,one at the front and one at the back and both need weeding and I decided to start on the front one. The manure I and some other people order is 2 or 3 years old and therefore ready for immediate use and costs £30 a load. Some other manure is also delivered that is free but it is new and contains a lot of wood chip. This needs composting for at least a year before it is used. A load of this was tipped while I was on holiday a few weeks ago but a lot went onto my herbaceous border. Before I could do any weeding I had to try and rake this off . I filled 5 barrows with it which I put on my compost yeap. Not that I really wanted it because I have enough manure of my own but was just to get rid of it. By the time I had done this I didn't get time to do much weeding after all.

That sounds like a lot of unnecessary work Derek. You could have done without this and it must have been quite difficult with the plants starting to poke through.

Yes it was,Cherry but there's not much I can do about it.Anyway I have been weeding the border this morning and got about half of it done. Rosemary needed the car this afternoon so I went in the greenhouse and took another 24 dahlia cuttings then carried on re-potting pot plants.I have quite a few of these to do yet. One of the next jobs I need to do is to put new felt on my shed on the allotment and when she came home we went to B&Q for some. It is cheaper there for pensioners on a Wednesday. Rosemary can't walk as well as she used to.Arthur keeps troubling her (artheritis!). She could do with a shopping trolley to help her when shopping but we have looked in all the shops we can think of and none of them have any , even Tesco and Matalan.

Rosemary ordered a shopping trolley this morning. Thanks, Sue. I have had a full day on the allotment--just weeding! I finished the herbaceous border I was doing on Wednesday. I have a row of floribunda roses at the back and spent the rest of the time weeding among them. There is a lot of couch grass growing among these roses and it is difficult to get it out without disturbing the roots of the roses but I got as much out as I could.I only got time to do half the row.

Had the afternoon in the greenhouse. Took 48 dahlia cuttings . I have taken 249 now which I think is almost enough. The only section I am short of is small cactus as I have only one Debs kiwi and there are only one or two more coming.I also took 36 chrysanth cuttings which will be tha last. I put all the boxes of chrysanth stools outside because I need the room in the greenhouse for other things.

Took 2 bags of compost that I had got from the hut to school first.Spent rest of the day in the greenhouse. Finished re-potting and sorting the pot plants. Got rid of a lot that were no longer any good. Then sowed a lot of flower seeds-alyssum, annual chrysanths, 6 varieties of French marigolds, 3 varieties of lavatera, and 4 varieties of calendula. none of these need to go in a propagator so I left them on the staging.
