I managed to get hold of a couple of nice sized Cream Moonlight tubers, any recommendations on how to grow them ?
Tried growing Eastwood a couple of years ago but with little success.
My ground tends to be a little on the heavy side so to avoid some damping off a raised bed to accomodate 12 plants is the plan.
My question being how many up ? '8' and is a double stop required ?

Tel, can I ask about your heat mat. Do you have any polystrene underneath or sand, how do you have it set up?

Mark when do you want them to flower? I grow on a single stop, 5 up, for early August. I have a very light soil that doesn't hold water well.

On a single stop, end of may, I end up having to grow some of them on a side bud to hold them back for my show. I tried to get some later flowering blooms by stopping some plants that were way behind the others end of June. They would have flowered before your dates too. If I was going for September again, I would double stop the best four leaders, and when the buds show on the laterals reduce to 5 or 6.

This morning i looked at Alva's Supreme in Dahlia Haven's online catalogue. Quite different from the photo I posted! Thanks for telling me, Tel.
And thanks, Scrumpy, I looked at the Halls of Heddon page, and the Daleko Jupiter I photographed was pretty much the colour of their one in real life, even though my photo hasn't turned out that colour. Their Rose Jupiter looks different from ones I have seen so far here, but maybe that is to do with the degree of shade used in growing it.
Sadly my camera is not very true to colour, but you know how it is... you can buy an awful lot of garden supplies for the price of a camera!

I still think it's the best looking giant in the garden. I stopped growing it because no matter how hard I tried, it always dropped it's petals for me on the show bench, and you could never tell when.

Does it matter on the thickness of the polystrene? also what sort of polythene? finally do you mind me asking the make/model etc? The reason for asking is that I bought some soil warming cables but now need to build a box for them and put in the sand etc. It will not be easy to store once I finished with the dahlia cuttings and need the space in the greenhouse again. I think a mat might be a better option but dont have much time to get it organised. Thanks for your help.

Is there any way you can make a bed in the base of your greenhouse like this I am re doing mine due to a cable failure. It will be ideal for providing the bottom heat you need. No need to worry about taking it down then.

Scrumpy, your Alva's Supremes are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing the photo! I'm afraid I am going to reciprocate with something less beautiful, so sense of humour to the ready! I have been trying a few bee pollinated seedlings, just to get the feel for raising Dahlias from seed. This is not good, but believe me, it is not half as bad as the other two which have flowered so far. I am just sharing it for people who are wondering about having a dabble:

Mine is a Hotbox Heatwave, they come in different sizes, just google it, the polystrene is 1in thick, but they recomend 2in, the polythene is what a bed mattress came in, so i did not have to buy any.

Thanks scrumpy but I have staging all round so no where to make that bed this year. I am getting another greenhouse in a couple of months which is too late for this year but maybe next I can have a go at building the type you suggest.
Thanks Tel will have a look at their website. I was not sure whether the plastic had to be a certain sort, clear or black but I suppose it does not matter. I have got some rolls of black plastic that I had for covering parts of the allotment so I could use that.
Thanks Guys.

Thanks Scrumpy, I think it may be a double stop and stop in 2 lots a week apart, probably 3 and 4th week in June. Mark
