Good luck with the dahlias and chrysanths, Matthew. I wonder how long you'll be able to resist showing them, especially if the blooms turn out good??
Tried growing Cornetto myself last year but all three plants were struck with white rust. Have treated them through the winter as advised by local experts (national champion) so I hope this will not recur this summer.

Thanks for the warning on white rust. How many blooms would you expect/allow to form per plant?

Thanks for the warning on white rust. How many blooms would you expect/allow to form per plant? I would try three blooms per plant except for Billy Bell which is a larger flower and would probably be grown two per plant. (Just in case the exhibition bugs bites, lol.)

Would it be a bad idea to let maybe 5 or 6 flowers form?

Would it be a bad idea to let maybe 5 or 6 flowers form? Six blooms would be ok on the incurve/intermediate types. Probably five would be ok on the reflex types. You could experiment with different numbers on different plants and see which do best. Take plenty of notes this year so you can refer back in following seasons.

I probably wont enter them in any show but I will do a certain amount of disbudding and de-shooting. Also for anyone who is interested I'll be growing the following early large flowered chrysanths Cornetto Billy Bell Gambit Matlock George Griffiths It is so exciting getting your plants. One of the problems here is that people do talk about the show side of things a lot, I think it rubs off on other people. Your plants look nice and healthy are you happy with them?

Yes I am very happy with them.Luckily I returned home just as the postie was walking up the road. He'd left a note saying he tried to deliver. So I followed him up the road.Could have been 24 hours more in the box otherwise
