Check the lower leaves of that fairway spur...I reckon you've got spider mite. If so, cut them off carefully and try and find a spray to get rid of them. I use dynamec, but that is impossible to get hold of. This stuff I use in the greenhouse when I spot them. spraysafe
As a routine I remove all lower leaves that are near the soil...makes watering easier and less chance of splashback from soil onto leaves that can lead to other problems

Hopefully your plants will recover from the bugs Matthew. Silver City is another name for Aberdeen (My nearest city) as most of the buildings are built from local granite

I thought it was las vegas..but Aberdeen is probably more of a hotbed of dahlia cultivation than a dry Nevada city.

What can you see that makes you think spider mites are present? Just the colour and appearance of the lower leaves.... I thought the colour of the leaves was the plant reacting to the high alkalinity of the soil. Most of my plants ,dahlias and others are a bit yellow to start with.

only way to tell is to cut those lowest leaves off and look underneath them with a magnifying glass....if there is very fine webbing, and little tiny dots that move around, it's mites.
