Finished digging up, trimming and potting up the remaining Geraniums. Now started on the tender Fuchsias. Planted up some more bulbs and now only have the Tulips to do in November.
Winter proofed the Greenhouse.and checked over the big wall coldframe and the smaller one...all set to go now.

You had a busy day yesterday then, jellibeans! I spent an hour at the minister's old house cutting back bramble during the morning yesterday. But during the afternoon I assembled the mini-greenhouse on top of the table I put up yesterday. After putting together the frame I put the plastic cover over it and then put it inside an old plastic mattress bag. I have used the bag for several years now. As I cut a door in it I can reach the plants easily at any time. It is also wider than the MG so I can also put some plants at the sides that won't fit inside the MG.

Except for my buzzy flu head, I feel ready to tackle the garden. This flu has lasted nearly a fortnight. However, my son and his partner did not like to tell me that they were tested positive for Covid at the same time. No wonder my head is buzzy and my balance is bad.

helped daughter to make a start on her front garden. Dug out a euonymus, brambles a native thalictrum, lemon balm and lots of self sown annual grass. We both ache and a 1/4 is now clear ready for any missed seed to germinate. I just hope she keeps on top of it as we are oo far away to help regularly.

Have you taken a Covid test to see if you've had Covid& not flu? The symptoms apparently are very similar. Hope you feel fine in a day or two, Cherry. Hoping your son & his partner are recovering well from their Covid infection.

Again this afternoon I spent about an hour & a half on the balcony. I used my time to put some pots of plants inside the MG that I assembled yesterday.
I put the tallest plants, mostly Geraniums & a couple of Fuchsias on the highest shelf as that is where there is most headroom in the MG. I had already cut them back by about 50% but I don't really expect, or want, them to grow much over the winter. The next shelf down I put the Cyclamen plants I bought a month or so ago. Behind them I have put some small pots with Geranium cuttings I took from the prunings of the plants I put on the topmost shelf. Below them I have put the Pansies I potted up a week or so ago. Then on the bottom shelf I put some more Geraniums. As you can see in the photo these are mainly variegated Geraniums which don't grow very high.
I cleaned up every plant of fallen leaves, flowers, etc. before putting them in the MG. Some needed pruning & have been reduced by half. The MG doors will remain open at all times unless we have frosty weather forecast when I shall close the door of the MG but, unless we are forecast many degrees of frost, I shall leave the outer door open. The big old mattress bag is only there in case we get really low temps as it has thicker plastic & being wider than the MG will trap more air when it is closed. Even so I still lost a few plants last year when we had 3 nights in a row with temps 7 degrees C. below zero. But these sort of temps are very rare here.
Here are some pictures from yesterday:
Sorry they're not in the correct order.

I've placed the Cyclamen & the Pansies in the MG for only a short time as I intend to put them in bigger pots & then on the balcony railings. But I don't have any more compost at present, having used the very last for the Geranium cuttings.
While I was "on a roll", & it being such a pleasant afternoon without any wind & in the warm sunshine, I also moved the big pots of Fuchsias 'Beacon' & 'Garden News' underneath the balcony table together with a big pot of variegated Geranium 'Madame Salleron'. I still have the original plant I bought a couple of years ago which I have put in the MG. All were reduced by about 50%. It's a shame to cut off flowering branches but needs must! The plants will still get a lot of sunshine as the sun is lower in the sky every day & sunshine reaches even under the table for a few hours in the afternoons.
I've left a pot of Carnations & the two pots of Calla Lilies outside against the balcony railings. The Calla Lilies should start to die back soon & when I remove the yellowed leaves they, too, will go underneath the balcony table where they will be kept dry all winter. The Peruvian Lily has been moved from the front of the balcony to the back & when the foliage dies down it will join the Calla Lilies under the table. The Peruvian Lily is alongside the two big pots of Clivias at the back of the balcony for now.

Grrrrrr!!!......getting rid of Vine Weevil grubs from my pots. So far so good ,all but one Red Begonia have been rescued in time. I'm just so glad that I always empty out the soil from pots and refresh plants that are being overwintered.

had a morning shopping in Diss then after lunch tackled more of Victoria and Dan's garden. this is what we did yesterday. The small euonymus by the back of the car has also been removed. Toria is not a fan of them. Apparently just before they signed for the house the neighbour cut down the large buddleia and Viburnum as in the gales they were in danger of scratching his car. The neighbour on the other side took great delight in telling us this as he felt that in each case a careful trim was all that is needed. Their stumps will need taking out but we didn't have the right kit to do it. I did more this afternoon and have almost cleared it back to the over grown euonymus that will definitely be taken out. Toria did plant a rowan that was grown from seed for the rowan in our garden. It will keep the witches at bay Hopefully I will get a photo tomorrow. We are going home tomorrow and hopefully it will not be as slow as coming, though the weather looks a bit grim.

looks as though you've both been busy balc2 and seaburn it's satisfying when you can get stuck into a good bit of work don't you just love neighbours seaburn I spent the morning cutting back a jasmine that was taking over the greenhouse side, when I have more time I'm going to get as much of it out as I can, it's in the wrong place and is rampant, also started cutting back the dreaded bay tree suckers I didn't get time to get them all out in the spring and they'd grown enormous, I still have more to do but the rain beat me

I cut down the peony and a few sedums that had past their best yesterday afternoon. Just need a dry weekend or two now to get some bulbs in and get the garden generally tidied up for the winter.
