Finished chopping up and bagging stuff I'd pruned then made a trip to the tip, planted out the last of the tulips in the front and the Sweet William plants in the back borders. Also planted out a new Anemone in the back garden, a new Saxifrage I bought at Hardy's nursery I went to plant out was full of vine weevil grubs, I've cleaned it all and planted it in the garden, but not looking very hopeful

No wonder you were angry grindle, plants you pay for at a nursery should be pest free! It shocked me when my son took me to a nursery to get some plants for my birthday to find that the Peruvian Lilies were covered in heavy mildew! I found a couple of plants that weren't infected which at least showed they were mildew resistant. Yesterday I spent half an hour or so on the balcony doing some cleaning up and moving plants around. I put all the pots of fuchsias underneath the balcony table and watered them. They will now spend the winter there. But I haven't moved the standard Fuchsia 'Garden News' yet. When frost is forecast I will wrap some fleece around it to give it a little more protection and then put it on the balcony table beside the mini greenhouse for the winter.

not been on much so in no particular order. GG that raised bed looks wonderful and the cobbles in front of it finish it off nicely. I could do with you and your good lady to help me remove some over grown shrubs too. Balc the pansies look lovely, always a cheerful little plant.
Grindle I know what you mean and I must say when I sell plants I always worry that there may be vine weevil grubs around. The Provado II stiff for vine weevil was /is due to be taken off the market. Did you not ring them and complain or had you bought the plant a while back?
I have been pulling more D umbellata out along with a native vetch that has out grown its use. I will keep a small patch as it is a pretty native plant. today I shifted a cubic metre of kiln dried logs from the front drive to the back of the greenhouse. Our log store has freshly cut apple and copper birch drying. A friend had to take them down due to disease. They will be ready for next year.

I just watered the hanging baskets as they hadn't been watered for a couple of weeks. The Lobelia in them in now mostly dead though there are a few flowers hanging on! The trailing Begonias are now dying back as I found a couple of thick stems on the floor of the balcony when I went out. Just the variegated Geraniums still growing & flowering. In a week or two I shall move the baskets inside the balcony, up against the windows where they will be dry all winter & safe from all but the hardest frosts.

It was too far for me to do anything about it seaburn it was when I was at my son's in Hampshire, I'll just have to put it down to experience, I would have thought a well known place like Hardy's would have treated the pots. Did more hacking the wilderness in the front back, starting with a box bush, then moving on to a Jasmine which has got far too big for the space and was beginning to affect the Choisya. Crocosmia leaves by the ton, filled another 4 bags ready for Monday. Will need a rethink for the area

Filled a ton bag with leaves and started on the next one. Had to stop as my hands are painful with holding the rake, etc. The Magnolia leaves are huge and cover everything. The boss collected those that have fallen, there are still a lot more on the tree. Did manage to cut down some of the border stuff. Spiked a few more metres of the 'lawn.'

I cut the lawn yesterday morning, as not sure when I'll get the opportunity again with the weather set to change next week. This morning I've weeded and emptied a few pots/troughs ready to plant some spring bulbs and put a few viola's on top for a bit of instant winter colour. This afternoon will be a planting session.

In between rain I managed half a dozen barrow loads of leaves. Now started filling the 4th. ton bag.

Had a great day in the garden yesterday -swept up the leaves from the pathways and from our 3 patios. Weeded and tidied up all their raised borders. Lightly trimmed a couple of shrubs. Potted up lots of rooted segments of Ajuga to use for ground cover in other areas. Lifted some more Dahlias that I have decided need re-homing next year ,the rest I've started to cut back ready to be munched over.

Probably a good thing that many of the leaves from our trees fall on the lane outside the property.

You are lucky geumgrower. I am next to an oak wood, so I must pay the price for my quiet neighbours and the leaves fall in my place, in places knee deep. I now try to stick to plants which can compete with this smothering, although the leaf blower helps. I planted some early daffodil bulbs.

I only really collect the leaves from the Drive and the grass. The problem to me with leaving them on the plants is that they do smother things, especially the Cyclamen. I do try to leave a thin layer of them on the soil, but even with the blower it is not easy to spread them out. I did make about a ton of leaf mould last year, so it is a useful exercise. Collected a few loads already today and blown the leaves off the drive into a pile, ready to pick up when my back stops hurting.
