Me and greenhouses don`t seem to get on too well, or maybe it`s just the fact that I don`t want to spend any money on them This is my second one I`ve have this one six years now and for £340 I should have known it wouldn`t last a lifetime. The roof went first but the company kindly sent me a complete new set of roofing panels a few years ago when they melted and yellowed . Now the rest are yellow and cracking with many holes , another storm will kill it off completely . I have had a lot of fun "fixing her up" , stopping the drips and leaks and the panels from flying off, painting her a lovely dark green when she turned blue in the cold , I`m really rather fond of her. The green paint is now peeling off but the frame is structurally sound . The panels are wider than on a normal greenhouse ( only 5 along the 12foot ) and because of this the cost to replace most o them is over £400 I can`t even get the very large one . Now my dilemma , do I replace all the panels and I don`t relish the job never mind the cost ! or do I, a the ripe old age of 60 buy a new one? And what one ? I would love a proper glass one and while I`m at it, I have the room for an 8 X 14 this time, but I remember the agony of erecting this one , swore I wouldn`t do it again . don`t think this one will last the year and simply greenhouses have a deal on www.greenhousepeople.co.uk/products/2641/simplicity-stableford-8ft4-x-12ft4-mill-package/

ladybird you may have had fun erecting your greenhouse, but it has never been right and as you get so much pleasure from it, I would go for another. Maybe you can sell the framework to a customer who could use a polythene cover, or get the right 'BillyOh' panels. It is a brand that would help to sell the frame, because parts are obtainable.

I`m afraid Cherry the greenhouse isn`t good quality, made in China resold by Kybotec as "BillyOh" they have loads and loads of complaints no spares available I was lucky they gave me a new roof . the extrusions are a little "pliable" and moves slightly with the polycarb in the wind , the frame certainly wouldn`t hold glass . Thanks tel for the info. I doubt if I`d be happy with less than an 8 X 12 foot now. (perhaps an 8X14 with double doors , plenty of windows , auto vents , 4mm safety glass, louvers , dark green finish and bar capping sigh ! shouldn`t have looked at the "Rhinos" £2000 should do it )

We can dream ladybird but most of us have to compromise. You weren't lucky to get the roof panels, you had to fight for them and it was not your fault. I would not need double doors, because I use the space beside the door as growing space on one side and a bin for compost on the other. I could use a bigger greenhouse though.

Oh dear LB. Do what I do/did. Check out all the local ads as you sometimes get a good 2nd hand one offered. I got two free (at different times) but had to dismanyle and transport home then rebuild. My current one I paid £50.00 for and had help taking it apart but rebuilt it myself. The local ad papers and freecycle are good sources to find things like that. Good luck.

On an allotment this would work well robh. Next to a house, it may not be ideal. Ingenious though.

I have found a place on line where I can replace all my polycarbonate for less than £300 . I`ts either that or I go for a 14 foot new one with toughened glass . it won`t be green though :(as that is just not worth the extra hundreds of pounds. and I am worried about the possibility of the glass getting broken by kids SP I have been looking on gumtree and asking about for over a year for a second hand one without a flicker and having erected two already WITH instructions and having little hair left i don`t relish the idea . Any "viewers" out there , I would love your comments if you have a rhino or large greenhouse.Dealings withe the larger greenhouse companies . how long is your polycarbonate lasting ? what is it like after five years or more ?

My greenhouse is 'Oasis' made in Israel and bought at B&Q about 11 years ago. It is constructed with twin wall polycarbonate panels which slide into the green moulded plastic frame and then plastic pegs are used to fit them in. It is lasting really well, going slightly off colour, but no-one else would notice this and it looks good when I wash it down. I think it will last longer than 10 more years. The roof is double pitched which gives me more height for tomatoes. I like the shape. In fact, I might treat it to a tidy and clean now that I have talked about it.
