These came from the same pack of white lisbon. Until today had lovely upright leaves Oh for a polytunnel apart from that, thickening up nicely, just starting to show signs of bulbing, so may be on course for some reasonable sizes.

Well this is how they are looking today. A bit sad in all the heat we've had. The biggest ones are 11" circumference, so i'll be more than happy if they can double that in the next month. Will have to get 5 up on about the 25th July to try and ripen them for Shrewsbury show, the rest i'll grow on for as long as possible.

I lifted the onions I overwintered a few weeks ago.....they are drying out in the polytunnel. This year's onions are really pathetic....so small and seem to be ready for lifting..the tops have all dropped.....I think it was the very dry spring that affected them.....glad its not only me.......

a few are now starting to bolt, 20 out of 27 still growing ok , 5 of them look as if they may form a nice set. Biggest now 14" circumference, so that's 3" growth in 12 days. Think i'll give them a good feed tomorrow...chempak no8, plus liquid seaweed, plus liquid humus....same as i use for sweet peas.

After planting my sweetpeas I seldom if ever feed them. it is all incorporated in the trench. the only exception was to give a liquid foliar feed of seaweed extract which gives the leaves that extra glow of health and a sprinkling of superphoshate at planting out time. Used to give my show onions a teaspoonful of super too around each bulb and water in or let the rain do it. I suppose its different nowadays how folks treat their show stuff.

Judging by the way my stems have shrunk, i think they need something This will actually be my 2nd feed for them, first one a few days before layering, this one about a week after. Don't know if they need it, just a routine thing i do to "help" them on their way up the canes again.

latest picture taken today. Cleaned up a few of the leaves that needed to come off. About 15 and a half inches circumference. Not as much growth as i was hoping for, but it's got a nice uniform shape. Will probably lift it on Thursday, so that the others can catch up. So if all goes to plan, i'll have 6 onions, each 16" or so circumference, lifted by 27th July, giving them a few weeks in the loft to get a bit of ripening done

Got up a load of onions for the under 8oz class. Will clean them up and grade them later. Luckily, the alium leaf miner didn't affect the 2 rows i had of Vento too much, so hopefully i will find 5 for the class and 15 for a rope.
