Fred white from my society won a class in the novices in wisley last year. So now he takes on the Mr sutherlands spencers aspitals etc....
It is quite daunting to think I hope to show in the same room as many fantastic growers.

Mark great you have stock of Hero I had seen Leslie had shown it at Wisley and was about to suggest you contact him but that is great you have it now. Novices as long as you have not won a first prize at Wisley or Harrogate (NDS shows) then you can enter the novices. Good luck with the allotment plot. Ian

Been having a read of the winter bulletin need to spend more time with it . Delighted to see the picture of wyns favourite Tel Congratulations mate. further congrats to all the forum members who did wonderfully well last year. I think I might make a couple of changes in my varieties Drop minley carol for willows violet and add in Oakwood goldcrest or Ruskin Myra and cut all of the novelty display one's down to singles. If I get extra cuttings then do plenty of pot tubers. Raymond I would grow Myra you will get more blooms, oakwood is good but it's very low growing , it's better in a tunnel or greenhouse to draw it up, you might only get 4 or 5 blooms off it .myra you can grow it 8 up.

Cheers ste b as a small grower and small cactus semi cactus preference my only concern with Myra is it is very very similar to ryecroft zoe in terms of colour also both semi cactus . I have my zoe field tuber thanks to scrumpy . The other choice is lemon elegans . Has anyone grown it ? Do you rate it ? Does well down here in Essex mainly . P ottaway and the porters grow it Successfully

You can grow Myra but it wasn't as good as Zoe. I tried Myra before Zoe. Varieties that do well mostly do so because everyone likes to " follow the leader" So they get shown more often. That doesn't mean other varieties aren't as good. Be a devil and grow something different

Don't worry Moonlight, least you won't have about your electricity bill. My little smart meter is doing a quick step around the dial, as we speak . And as Lou says, you'll will soon get going .
Signed up for my first allotment this morning, after getting the once over from the Association chairman. 125 sqm, with shed, and they even rotovate it for you!! Not bad for £23 per year, and £5 association membership. I feel like I've won the pools .
Happy days indeed
Well done and best of luck with the allotment Mark you will love it, going to have to watch out for you on the bench hehe.

Steve and scrumpy yes nice to be different . I Have got kelsea Carla coming thanks to Ian k so I do have zoe, jersie and Carla . Want to try a kiwi probably trelyn although Gloria Doing better this year but trelyn easier to match Colour wise For a small grower. Have not seen Ruskin Andrea in the flesh. Looks a nice dahlia. I would have loved Ruskin fantasy but issues with it hopefully resolved ( Dave s ) has all the stock. I was also looking at kilmorie or the new sport sues kilmorie . I also liked the athalies old but still a good dahlia. I shall mull it over . I might be ok with what I have or go completely different and try a cherwell or something Else I do like lavender line but blunt petals. Will take my time with this and think seriously about it. Been reading the bulletin cover to cover.

Definitely one for growing as many up as possible off a wing bud or lower. Stock can vary.

Stan Pennington has stock of fantasy he is building it back up it's not a good tuber maker.I have been after some off him for the past two years, Dave spencer grows it well and I think it's Stans best small semi cactus, Stan likes Lisa and has promised me some cuttings .

ste b Dave was saying at the Kent agm that he has been ironing out problems with fantasy . I believe some virus issues . It is a stunning looking dahlia from the photo I saw from Essex in 2013. He said he would be sending Stan some stock this year. Ruskin Lisa shown a lot at high Wycombe area I heard. Think some people in Kent trying it. Have not seen it myself. I might ask Dave for fantasy for next year. I loved the look of pink goldcrest but heard it is full of virus.

Raymond, Lemon Elegans is a good Dahlia low grower centres twist a little too much for my liking but there are now better varieties, Zoe is better and easier to grow and grows very well straight up. Ruskin Andrea needs double stopping and more also growing on a side bud with little disbudding and still may be big it is a semi just like Zoe of the two it's Zoe for me. Killmorie is also very good but can be a little untidy Sue's looks a better prospect. Why do you want to grow so many cactus/ semi do you intend going for multi vase classes? Whatever you choose good luck. Ian. See if Graham (Scrumpy) will let you have some of his sport off Zoe, that is excellent.

If I remember right Lisa , Myra , Jersey ,Zoe , Penelope, all similar colours and look like there out of each other.

Lots of similar looking one's ste b i found that with the decs . Easy for you experts but a nightmare for novices. I forgot I have a tuber of an American small cactus winner called parkland rave what you think scrumpy. Does very well in USA . Bright pink . I wonder if doing a plant or six is worth it ? Was going to do 2 in my display anyway. Decisions decisions. Let's see how the propagation goes. This is parkland rave
